That Hideous Strength by C.S. Lewis

I've tried to read that thing three times and just can't get through it.  I've read the first two, does it really connect to them at all?

I'm currently reading Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. dork.  Didn't care a whole lot for Scott's movie, but the book is pretty god so far, and makes far more sense.  I'm also about to re-read G. K. Chesterton's The Man Who was Thursday, as I didn't really "get it" when I read it in high school.

I haven't gotten far enough into it to know yet. lol I'm almost through the first chapter, but Minister Polarius assures us that it is, so there you go. Also, I should probably add Life, the Universe, and Everything by Douglas Adams to the list of books I'm reading. It's part of the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. I've read the first two books and haven't started that one yet.

its not. Its just stating history and going over what fascism is and how it is connected to the left. On this you can not deny it. Go ahead and pick up and read for your self. But its great book.
Fascism is right-wing, actually.

Fascism is left-wing, actually. It the other side of the coin of communism. The Nazi were the "Nationalist Socialist Party".
Libertarians are far right wing, but they are like herding cats
It really all depends on your definitions of right and left. According to the classical definitions of right and left, fascism is the far right. However, newer conservative systems have put fascism on the far left. I personally like the Cartesian plane system myself.

From Glen becks book Common Sense.
I hope this book serves as solid starting point in your journey to learn more about your country, its history, and what it needs to be one to put her back on course.
But this book can be only that: a starting point. You must continue your education and learning that you will recongnie those  people whose plans and policies promote personal freedom and responsibility, along with danger signs of those whoses policies will do the apposite.

These books are just few that I have read over past twive months and have really opend my eyes. I believe first two should be required reading. The 5000 Year Leap is essential to understanding why our Founder built this Republic the way they did, and American progressivism will reveal how our country began to leave its core roots and where pathway ultimaty leads.

Additional Reading
The 500 Year Leap: A Miracle That Changed the World, by W. Cleon Skousen (National Center for Constitutional Studies)

Americian Progressivism, edited by Ronald J. Presritto and  William J. Atto (lexington)

The Real Benjamin Franklin, By Andrew M. Allison, M. Richard Maxfield, And W. Cleon Skousen (National Center for Constitutional Studies)

The Forgotten Man: A New history of Great Depression , by Amity Shlaes (HarperCollins)

The Real George Washington, By Andrew Alison, Jay A. Parry and W. Cleon Skousen, (National Center for Constitutional Studies)

Lenin, Stalin, Hitler: The Age of Social Catastrophe, By Robert Gellately (Vintage)

Liberal Fascism: The Sercert History  of American Left, From Mussolini to Politics of Meaning, By Jonah Goldberg (Doubleday)

New Deal or Raw Deal? How FDR's Economic Legacy Has Damage America. By Burton Folsom, Jr.(Threshold Editions)

The Real Thomas Jefferson, By Andrew M. Allison, K DeLynn Cook, M. Richard Maxfield, And W. Cleon Skousen (National Center for Constitutional Studies)

Wildrow Wilson and Roots of Modern Liberalism, By Ronal J. Pestritto (Rowsman & little Field)

Now I personal would add one more book to that list.
Liberty and Tranny: A Consertive Manifesto, By Mark R. Levin.
Alson Add Glen Beck's Common Sense: The Case Agienst a Out-Of-Control Government,  inspired By Thomas Paine.

Books I have read off this is Liberty and Tranny,Liberal Fascism, And Common Sense. I am starting 5000 year leap next as soon as my book store gets it in as I got it  on hold. Fight with me if you want on this but I'm just starting my reading and need to read these books too.

The last book I read was Brisinger, Paolini(author). 800 something page book and read in 3 days.
comparing that book to Eragon and Eldest (which were awful, to say the least), it was amazing... otherwise, it was decent. Eragon isn't dead yet though... it's making me angry. :maul:

I thought the twist at the end was quite clever, but it left a pretty gaping plot hole. I haven't read the book, I've only seen the movie. I do, however, intend to read it sometime. I would also like to read his trilogy (which had titles that were colors -- the name escapes me at the moment) that takes place in the dreaming and waking worlds. It sounds very interesting. I'd also like to read Ted Dekker's and Frank Peretti's collaboration, House.

I really liked Thr3e.  He completely convinced me that the solution he chose should be completely discounted before revealing it was the only possibility.  The movie, however, was fail, as was the film for House.  He doesn't write very visually, so the films don't work.

Guess I need to get my copy of Hideous Strength back out.  I'm gonna force myself to finish it this time :)

Well, I don't know much about him personally, but he writes Christian fiction. He's similar to Frank Peretti, except that Frank Peretti writes more horror-type stories and Ted Dekker, from what I understand, writes more thriller-type stories.

haha, I laughed at House the movie... hysterically.
I must say, I thought Susan would be more of a sweet little girl. I liked the change. but it was so random...

Is Ted Dekker a christian?

I don't think of philosophy, theology, literature, or political science to be "nerdy" academic pursuits.

No, I'm more citing the difference between the nerd and the Renaissance men. The nerd isn't cultured, the Renaissance man is.

It depends on your definition of culture. The nerds are the ones more likely to play chess, join the debate team, or play roleplaying games based on a certain culture's mythology.
