I'll pop some adderoll at five, put some tea on the kettle, read Ethics, and write my paper...I do take it routinely so I didn't get off my norm too much, just lost some sleep.
A schedule which requires you to take a drug on a regular basis is not a good schedule.  God made your body work the way it does for a reason.  Listen to it.

It's terrible... now that I'm in graduate school, all I do is read stuff... but nothing I actually read for leisure.. so sad :(

But, converting to audiobooks = awesome. I can listen in the car or at work, and do it multiple times without taking forever... next book on my list is "Jesus wants to save Christians" by Rob Bell.

Anything that enhances mental performance is ends justifies the means for me. Drugs are not bad in themselves, it is the abuse of such things that is bad.

wouldn't you call using drugs every day (or many days) abuse?

#1 - the ends never justify the means
#2 - if you are doing Adderoll on a regular basis, then what is to stop you from doing Speed, or something else in the future
#3 - if someone sees you popping pills on a regular basis, then what is to stop them from thinking it is ok for them to do it too

What if you or they don't have as much self-control as you think you have?

Ends always should justify the means, that's what ethics are, the ability to make decisions between two evils.
#2 - if you are doing Adderoll on a regular basis, then what is to stop you from doing Speed, or something else in the future
Speed is unsafe and has incredibly dangerous side effects, Adderoll (which is made from speed) is much safer and has few side effects (loss of appetite ).

Some questionable material in the book may be the cause.

Its just as "questionable" as 1984 was. Mabye even less.

For what its worth, I was talking more about the time at which you went to sleep more than the fact that you took an adderoll.  Being on a bad sleep schedule can really make things hard on your body.  Maintaining a normal sleep cycle (sleep when it is dark) is definitely advised.  For me that means bed at around 12 and waking around 8.  I've maintained a higher gpa with a good sleep cycle in comparison to when I would stay up til odd hours of the morning and then sleeping in the afternoon.

Ends always should justify the means, that's what ethics are, the ability to make decisions between two evils.

PETA repeatedly breaks the law in their protests against animal cruelity.  A decent cause does not justify breaking the law, you simply have to find another way to get things done.  In your case, the whole 'don't procrastiate' method might work well.  (By the way, there is only one "evil" in your senario: taking questionable drugs regularally, thus it is not a battle between the 'best of two evils' or anything, but simply reasoning away a poor decision.)

#3 - if someone sees you popping pills on a regular basis, then what is to stop them from thinking it is ok for them to do it too
Nothing, that's their call, not mine. I mean, I think it's okay for me to do why shouldn't that apply to them?

Romans 14:19-21
Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a man to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble. It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother to fall.

Adderoll is not illegal, therefore, it is lawful. Also, you should know by now I don't hold the law at any value.

Really?

1. Hitler was justified killing the Jews to help fix the German economy.
2. I am justified when I kill 10 people to get a DVD.
3. The US government was justified in exiling 2000 natives off of Diego Garcia to make a military base.

Do you support all of these things? Cause if not, you should revise your statement.

I disagree.  Ethics are about determining right and wrong.  And doing something wrong for a good reason is still wrong.

Speed is unsafe and has incredibly dangerous side effects, Adderoll (which is made from speed) is much safer and has few side effects (loss of appetite ).
But that doesn't answer my question.  If Speed will help you accomplish your goals, and you believe that the ends justify the means, then why would you not end up doing Speed if the Adderoll stops working for you eventually?

Do not put the Lord your God to the test.

I don't hold the law at any value.
And your attitude about that is not Biblical or Christlike.  God puts authorities in our lives for our good, and expects us to obey them (unless they contradict God's authority).

I don't believe in empirical absolutes either. I also think you guys are being absurd. What gives you the idea that I would go from a legal drug prescribed by my doctor to meth?

Your doctor prescribed you to take that every day?

And did you read my other post? That seemed like a legit argument.

Just a few absolutes for those who question me:
   God exists.
   God is love.
God provided a way to have a relationship with Him:  Jesus Christ
God is the only one who is in the position to establish what is truly right and what is truly wrong.

I could go on, but it may be fruitless.

What gives you the idea that you wouldn't?

1 - the law would stop me - no you don't respect the law
2 - it is wrong - no you don't believe in absolute wrong, and even if it were wrong, you wouldn't care as long as it helped you get your paper done
3 - because I know my limits - no if you look at your past, I am sure you will see times when you did things that you never thought you would do and probably a few things that you wish you hadn't
