My Issue with "Topdeck" and "Underdeck"

I'm glad that they condensed the functions of moving a card to the top/bottom of a deck into one-word abilities. However, I am very much bothered by the inconsistency between the words "topdeck" and "underdeck". If "topdeck" means "move to the top of the deck", then "underdeck" would mean "move to the under of the deck", which makes no sense.

It's probably too late for changes, but I think "underdeck" should be "bottomdeck". Either that or "topdeck" should be "overdeck".

Call me picky, but this is a major wording issue in my mind. Just another one of those inconsistencies that keeps me from enjoying the game.

Really?  I think the abilities are pretty clear in their intent, and clearly defined in what they do.  I don't think that this is an issue at all.

I agree with this. I do think "Bottomdeck" sounds better than "Underdeck" does. My only issue is I don't really like the sound of underdeck and Topdeck in a common term used when your hand is empty and you are relying on your draw for what they can play, but since it usually isn't an issue in Redemption, I don't really mind that.

Really? THIS is what we're complaining about now? underdecking means to put the card UNDERNEATH the deck. It's not rocket science.

The issue was discussed. The majority of the playtesters voted for underdeck. I won't say explicitly which side I was on, but I'll make a pouty face to convey my feelings:   >:(

Personally I think that the word "underdeck" is cool.  But I might be a bit biased.

I also think that "overdeck" sounds weird, and I have young children and teach junior high students, so using "bottomdeck" or anything with "bottom" in it is probably a bad idea :)

One is unofficially by players, but means something completely different. But as game mechanics, definitely not.

Everybodys opinion is always important to hear out. What makes redemption fun is not just playing the game, but having conversations about it to. There probably will never be perfect wording in this game, but I do like the idea of simplifying the words to make it easier to understand for newer players.  I have a 8 year old who is just starting to learn how to play and this will help me introduce more complicated cards to her earlier.  Love the game and keep the conversations going  ;D

Kidding aside, I am thankful for the comment about wanting to keep consistency.  I hope you can begin to enjoy the game again in spite of its inconsistencies.

I had a math teacher who, when someone would introduce themselves to him and say "nice to meet you" he would correct them by saying "No, no, it's meet, not meat. You said meat." He was a great guy. The funniest thing he ever did was find a person named Ron Dale and give them a T-Shirt with my high school's name on it. The name of my High School is Irondale. So he has a picture of himself with a random guy he found on the internet: "I, Ron Dale.

In other news, it's my first time working on the Friday before Memorial day in the corporate world. So half the people in my office are gone, and there is a pretty constant crowd in the break room. It's going to be a long day...

I completely agree that topdeck and underdeck more accurately convey the action, because it is an action instead of a location.  Placing on top or placing under sounds better than placing over or placing on bottom.  Action :)

Oh my, your first one?  Those are fun.  Also fun are the Christmas Eve / New Year's Eve days that fall on Monday.  Long days indeed...

On a more fun note, my company lets us out at 3:00pm ;)  And you get paid for the full day regardless of the time you're supposed to get off (we have people who get off at 5 or 6 depending on their schedule).  So obviously my employer's have read some parables :D
