What happened to agreeing to disagree. I agree with Soul Seeker. I'll take God over science please. Because with science it is POSSIBLE it can change at any moment if God wants it too but God will never change
Oh please. God CREATED Science, so don't even go there.

I doubt that everyone who believes in a literal Genesis also believes that you should literally gouge out your eye when it causes you to sin (as Jesus said to).
Just as an aside.  I actually do think that if you absolutely CANNOT stop sinning with you eye, that it would be better to not have it.
I disagree. Your heart is really what matters, and if I plucked out my eye, I haven't become a better person. It does apply though to our everyday life. If I watch trash on tv and it causes me to sin, get rid of the tv.

Thank you.
Agree.  Even a blind man can lust.  Although watching trash on TV is not the TV's fault, it is your choice and therefore a heart issue...  Which is ironically what you said 2 sentences prior  :)

Creation didn't last only seven days, it was millions of years
One interesting thing to note is that the Hebrew words used to number the days of creation mean literally "one sunrise and one sunset".  Also, those words never meant anything other than "one sunrise and one sunset" anywhere else they were used in the Bible.  (I learned this from Creation magazine.  I read some of their magazines back in the day - I don't agree with everything in them, but there's really no way to argue with the Hebrew word choice.)  If the writer of Genesis wanted to "figuratively" describe millions of years, he/she had many other options that were not used.

I see no one touched my question posed earlier - if you believe in millions/billions of years before "man" appeared on earth, do you believe that there was death before sin?  That God looked at His Creation, saw that it was "very good", and there was death?

The Big Bang is an upcoming episode of Doctor Who wherein the TARDIS is destroyed. It is the last part of the 212th serial, regarding The Pandorica.

remember that light was first created before everything else. I'm not trying to argue for or against anything, i'm just stating a fact
technically it could have been billions of years from Genesis 1:3 to Genesis 1:11 (the place where plants are formed)

how do you figure? I am with jmhartz and i hav heard the same thing of the Hebrew word(i do think thats awesome) when it does say ONE day. Each DAY He specified the day was over and His work was good. Why do you think there is a gap?
Life is a day that doesn't last for long.

Oh wait... I forgot, the BBT states that the moon crashed into the earth and caused an explosion. Therefor creating the earth. So does this also mean if a car crashes into another car then that car just becomes better?

That's an incorrect statement.  The BBT makes no such claim.

Natgeo or The History channel said this. But then again, the BBT has like, four ideas on how the earth evolved.

Well, Natgeo and the History channel both happen to include radicalized versions of almost every theory out there.  That particular version doesn't sit well with the BBT.  I believe that type of event would have to have occurred after the BBT, but based on the Bible, I'd say it never happened in the first place (The collision thing).

The official position of over one Billion Christians is that much of the first 11 chapters of Genesis is not literal but figurative.

Please cite your resource for this statistic.

I'm not seeing anything about 1 billion Christians believing in a mythical Genesis.  I see a bunch of quotes of philosophers arguing for and against the literal translation of Genesis.  I must be missing it.

At any rate, a large group of people believing one thing is not really proof of anything.  I would venture a guess that well over half the people in the world do not genuinely believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

Did you see my question about death and sin above?  I'd like to hear your take, not to argue with you, but to understand what you believe.

My take on the catholics and genesis is that they are free to believe creation took place in any time frame they choose based on the evidence they see.  IMO that is basically saying that the Catholic Church accepts an Old Earth creation but isnt necessarially forcing it on the one billion catholics world wide...but it is the accepted belief.

I didn't see the death before sin bit, sorry.

You can look at it a couple of ways.  Before God's spirit comes on to mankind, death doesn't really mean anything.  It is a natural extention of life.  But when an enternal sprit is infused into a moral man, then death takes on a new meaning and becomes something much different.  SO you could argue it either way.  People (in an animal state) died before sin but when an animal dies, it does not have the "sting" of "death" because they are not self aware.  I have seen my parents cat eat her kittens when they died soon after birth.  That is a horrible thing for us to do, but to the animals it is simply what you do with dead kittens.  But when sin (and God's eternal spirit) came upon humanity, then dying truly became "death"  something that is foreign to an eternal spirit, something horrible and cruel.  SO you could say that "death" did not exist before sin because death is only death when we are aware of it and its eternal consequenses.

Or I could just be rambling
