I'm at a point in my life right now where I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do for the rest of my life. The plan I'd set up for myself for 2-3+ years (major in psychology, go to graduate school to get a doctorate in counseling) doesn't seem as appealing as it did when I first started college, and I'm starting to look in other directions. For the last couple weeks, I've been seriously thinking about switching my major to political science, and my original thought was that I'd do that with the intention of either going to law school or simply becoming a paralegal or otherwise getting into government at some point. However, I came across something tonight that would allow me to get certification in secondary education (7-12) in conjunction with a political science degree. Teaching (specifically at the high school or, ideally, university level) is something that's also recently caught my eye since I started college, especially when you hear so much about how fulfilling teaching is, despite the low pay.

I guess I really just don't know exactly what I want to be when I grow up, and I'm at that point in my college career where I have to figure it out relatively quickly, or risk having to take an extra year of school. For those of you who do teach, especially at the high school (or higher) level, can you send me a PM if you have the time? I have all sorts of questions. Brad, if you happen to see this, would you mind asking Gretel if she'd submit to questions? Otherwise, please pray; it's a bit unsettling to go from having this whole big plan laid out to considering getting a degree in teaching (something I'd have never considered in a million years not a year ago), so I need wisdom and discernment here.

I've decided to become a leprechaun. But seriously, I know that feel. I was in school for poli-sci to go into law, but now I'm on track to be a teacher.

College is not only for getting a degree but finding out what your career will end up being.  I changed majors twice in a two year span.  Nothing to worry about.  Just take some classes in the field that you think you are turning to and see how they go.
