That's really too bad. I thought that there was actually a lot of deep stuff in Tron the first time I saw it.

When you were twelve, right?

Cute. I think I was about 16 actually :)
I remember thinking that the MCP was like a human being. Flynn was like God (who created the program). The program had gradually become corrupted, and the only way to save it was for God to actually enter into the program (like the incarnation). And the only way to finally change the very nature of the program was for Flynn to sacrifice himself (like the crucifixion). I remember seeing the end where all the red lines change to blue, and just having this really euphoric feeling of the Redemption of Man. It was really cool.

December 17th, 2010. Which is strange because the Yogi Bear movie (also CGI) is releasing the same day.
-
Yogi Bear? sounds familiar. probably G rated?
-
I remember seeing Tron in the movie theater and switching between that and I think it was the movie where the modern us fighters go back in time to almost fight the japanese at pearl harbor.
-
That would be The Final Countdown.

I can't believe that there hasn't been a single person chiming in about my theological interpretation of Tron. I was sure that by now at least a few people would have said that either "Wow, that's cool. I never saw that before." or "That's just stupid. How could you think that?" I had no idea which way it would go, but I'm surprised that neither happened.
-
It's funny you should mention that. I had a nice discussion about your interpretation with a friend at church on Sunday. He was complaining about all the unChristian themes he has seen in movies recently, and I told him about the interpretation you had mentioned here.
He was interested, but tended to think you had stretched it a bit. :)
I really like your interpretation. Makes me want to see Tron again. I have seen it in a VERY long time. I remember very little besides the lightcycles.

some people need to play kingdom hearts 2. :)

I beat that game three times, but I simply cannot remember the plot to it.
-
I guess I just thought the religious overtones were pretty obvious. Programs speaking breathlessly about all-powerful "users" who created them, Flynn's superlative powers in the computer world, "if I don't have a user, then who wrote me?", "Great, another religious nut", "Oh my User", and "those of you who renounce this superstitious and hysterical belief will blah blah blah the MCP"

Ditto. I felt the religious overtones were pretty thick.

Exactly.
