You are going to Mardi Gras for your birthday and you are worried that the Bus Stations will be bad?

seriously, is this a joke?

I say go.  And take the bus.  There is tremendous opportunity for spreading the gospel when you travel.  Just ask Paul.  Or my wife.  She has taken the Greyhound several times to visit her parents and has witnessed to a few hungry souls.  In fact, she is getting on the Greyhound again tonight.  Her objective is carnal: she wants to see her parents and pick up our new car that we bought.  But God will use her along the way, just as He will use you on your way to Mardi Gras.

Even as one of the more conservative members of the boards, I trust that God will make this a fruitful trip regardless of your motives.  Just let His Spirit guide you.   

Speaking as someone who HAS traveled the country on grey hound, go for it. Just make sure you get your luggage, you know and are ready to go to your gate at LEAST a half an hour before a transfer, and keep an eye on your surroundings and belongings.

i put my ps2, redemption decks, and an entire sealed box of 2nd edition starter decks as luggage underneath the bus, and never saw it again.

Greyhound is awesome!

One time when I was riding Greyhound I "accidentally" picked up somebody else's luggage when I was leaving a bus. The luggage contained a PS2, redemption decks, an entire sealed box of second edition starters, and a whole box full of random boosters.  What a haul!

Nahs. There's no joke there or I would've loled at the end of my statement.  The difference is I will be surrounded by friends during mardi Gras, while I will be with noone I know when Im at the stations transferring.

Everything that I've heard about Mardi Gras (including from friends who have gone) gives me the impression that it is a celebration of the carnal human nature.  I'm am unclear why a Christian would want to participate in that.

It's actually a celebration before the season of Lent. On how people celebrate it, it's up to them. Everyone's different.

To the others, thanks. Yea, I've searched in the internet for different Greyhound experiences. Some of them are pretty cool... like this one person met a runaway 15 year old kid whos been travelling for 8 hours until the people on the bus convinced him it was the wrong decision. I also heard that even if you have a ticket, you dont have a guaranteed seat on the bus? So there is a chance you may not even be able to board the bus on your transfer?

Yes, but common themes include drunkenness, nudity, and other sexual activity outside of marriage.  All of these things go against God's will for our lives (and His commands in the Bible).  Everyone may be different, but as a Christian, you are called to not "celebrate" in these ways.

Not exactly.  And if Claude is willing to say that he is not planning on participating in any of that sort of activities, but is just going there to evangelize others, or to enjoy Dixieland music, or to have a time of spiritual renewal to prepare for Lent, then I have no problem with that.  However, based on previous conversations that I've had with Claude, I am a bit concerned that he may be planning on participating in the "party atmosphere" in a way that he will regret later in life.  I hope that you are right, Alex, and I have nothing to worry about.

Like I said, that's up to them. God gave them the gift of freedom. The gift of choice and the gift of conscience. I would prefer if we do not get away from the main topic which is 'Traveling across America on Greyhound'. If you want to talk about Mardi Gras, then I suggest starting a new thread and make that the main topic. Thank you.

I don't understand it either. He never impliedor said anything about what he is going to be doing. He just said he was going to attend Marti Gras personally. You warned him about what you feel goes on there, which is perfectly acceptable and normal, but to keep pushing it makes you come across as very elitist and legalistic in a situation where there is no reason to bring that air. While that certainly has its place, I don't see what in this thread has justified the responses given. He is right that it is up to them; by implication it is up to him as well. He knows this.

I think that breeding dogs just for racing is hideous.
