What's the time-frame like on one of these things?
I'm getting in pretty good shape with my daily dance classes, but I'm not sure I can run a 10K in a decent time at all.
I run slow--a 10k takes me a little less than an hour to complete (so basically around 9-10 minutes per mile). I did the event with my brother in-law. I estimate we ran about half the the 12 miles, and it took about 3 1/2 hours to complete the course. There were other people who ran the whole way and another group who started walking from about mile one on. The Tough Mudder is not a race--it is about finishing and helping everyone else finish.
How much upper body strength does it take? I plan to pick up running again when I get a chance (not sure how long I'll be able to go....) and might be interesed in trying this. But I have basically no upper body strength.
I have a
13-week C210K (couch to 10k) program that I followed the past two years. (Yes, you really should only run 3 times a week.) As far as upper body strength goes, I pulled a muscle in my shoulder on Labor Day and was in enough pain that I went to see a doctor on the Thursday before (and he told me to be really careful because I could do some permanent damage). So there were a few obstacles (curse you rings!) I couldn't do--but nobody was tsk-tsking about that. You try everything, complete as much as you can, help other people around you complete as much as they can, and have a blast. They also have a training link at the top of the
Mudder site that has their recommended strength training.
