Third day of nats

I'm not sure what category to play on the third day. Any suggestions? I don't have a teams partner, I've never played sealed deck, and I don't have much experience in multi player play.

My evaluation (my opinion)

Sealed will be more fun then ever before because box packs will be available.   It requires a level a skill and understanding of how to use your starter decks. Some weird stuff usually happens in sealed and you may get a chance to play against some redemption founding fathers including Mr. Rob Anderson himself.

Multi- is usually a relaxed category. It can be competitive when everyone playing understands the etiquette of multi but that doesn't seem to happen very often.  Mostly you have to be willing to have fun talking and playing with others in a relaxed setting.

Teams- is my personal favorite of the 3 available on Saturday but it really is hard to throw a deck together for teams and compete.  Usually partners have played together and tested decks (maybe even come up with code speak). This will most likely draw the top competition for the day and have the most top cut, national placers and elders involved in actually playing.

That sounds like booster. Let me fix that for you ::)

T1-Multi is always the most cutthroat category. It can be unbearably frustrating when just one person doesn't understand the etiquette, which is almost always. This makes it the least competitive category. You absolutely must be ready for shameless favoritism/targeting, relentless dominant dropping if one person even suspects you might be getting a lead, and getting into 3 on 1 scenarios. You could easily have the best deck in the category and lose. Truer words in Redemption were ne'er spoken: Friends don't let friends play T1-multi.

In all seriousness, I haven't played the category since the dom cap, but I don't see how it could be any different now from then. If you don't have a teammate, I'd say play sealed. If you don't want to spend the extra for that, but really must play, then play multi only if you're desperate. This is all opinion, of course. I know some people disagree with me on this, but there are flavors of ice cream I won't eat. ;)

You've never played T2 MP with CountFount obviously... ::)

Part of the strategy to winning T1 MP (or any MP category for that matter) is identifying those players who don't understand MP etiquette (or who don't care--some people just want to watch the world burn after all) and using that to your advantage.

It's rarely advantageous to jump out to an early lead--given the choice, I nearly always choose to go second depending on how the opening souls came out. I'd much rather be the guy who's just one soul behind the leader.

Irrelevant--this is true of every category. Being the Saturday judge for Nationals last year, I checked an I deck (for Sealed) that had Kings Michael and Kings Strong Angel. I thought for sure the player would be near the top but instead he finished 3-3. At MN state this year there were three of us playing T1 MP. The deck that won was a 2P deck and defeated two decks that were designed specifically for T1 MP. Anything can happen... :P

I like to say it this way: Friends only play T1-multi with other friends.  8)
