The Giant (a poem)

This is a little poem I wrote for School. It had to have 14 phrases, and 10 syllaboles in each phrase.

The Giant
1. The Giant stood there like a disturbed bear
2. His beaten fingeres numbered twenty-four

3. The features of his face distinctly rare
4. Staring into the face of hatred's core

5. His voice echoed throughout the hills of Gath
6. His spear was stained with blood of his rivals

7. His deathly eyes reflected gruesome wrath
8. His dark sheild was made of molten idols

9. His sword glistened with the stare of the sun
10. One warrior was destined to destroy him

11. But men who saw him thought only to run
12. But a child stepped forward, ready to fight

13. Only a stone, only a little stone
14. And the giant lay there, dead and alone

I hate having to use iambic pentameter for poems, it really takes away from the creativity since you have to sit there and count the syllables and make sure each has ten.

Nice poem!  :)

Iambic Pentameter is epic, I don't know what your talkinga bout ;). I wouldn't say it takes away creativity, you can do basically the same thing with just a few different wording choices.

Although I am biased, I read and love a lot of Shakespeare who uses tons of it.

Back on topic: Good poem.
