Title: The Expendables
Post by: xCaLeBx on August 04, 2010, 04:19:43 PM
I just watched the trailer.....I just died of a heart attack. Looks like awesome storyline probably the best line up to ever grace the big screen. It may be one of the only movies I'll buy on dvd instead of torrenting.

Assuming that by torrenting you mean downloading movies without paying for them (which hopefully you aren't, although it is quite common), then this is probably not a good thing to advertise here on a Christian forum.

In addition, isn't this movie rated R?  Am I remembering wrong that there is some forum policy about that?

I would be shocked if it was not Rated R.  This is another one of those movies (Rocky, Rambo, Predator, etc. that, while telling an entertaing story, subtly reinforces what society tells us about how we should perform masculinity.  We arent men if we dont cuss, shoot big guns and work out until our biceps are 80 inches around.

If you have the chance to see the doumentary Tough Guise, check it out.  It is low budget and is mostly scenes of a guy talking in the midst of media clips, but it has an interesting point about how society reinforces "proper" male behavior by encouraging ritual violence, misogyny and homophopic behavior.

this reminds me of Soundman2 and his Superman Man-punch where Superman yells "I am a Man!" and punches the criminal really hard and rips out his guts:P
shooting big guns is fun but as for swearing and workin' out it is not. Oh and the big guns thing remember not to shoot people. I've never dunnit and don't plan to ever at all in my lifetime of twelve years so far that has been extremely enjoyable seeing how God, who is awesome and all powerful, put me here for the purpose of reaching out to others in my neighborhood and and other countries who have not heard about God Almighty who also put them there to be able to listen to what we have to say so that they can go to heaven with us when they die and we die and we can all live happily ever after to the end of our days...! *takes a deep breath*

Hating on someone's post because of their opinion?

EDIT: HOLY CROW!  Tough Guise is $275!  No wonder my tuition is so much.

Way to bash a guy's opinion on wanting to see a movie. Seriously... it's a movie, if you personally do not plan on seeing it, just simply say it and don't attack him for having a differing opinion.

I will see it. Will I pay to see it? No. But that's the beauty of working at a movie theater.  ;D

I just don't see Statham as a "team player" persona.  Like, if they made a movie with Tom Cruise (Mission Impossible), Jason Statham (Transporter Series), Mark Wahlberg (Shooter), and they guy from the Bourne series, I could not see them all working together and following the same plan.  Just my opinion though.  (I guess the same goes with Stallone).  And yes, probably all of those movies are rated "R," but the trailers aren't ;)

There's another great debate: Jason Bourne (Matt Daemon, by the way) vs. Mark Wahlberg.

YEah, definitely borrow it from the library if you can.  I didnt realize it was that much.  Actually  Yocu an check it out on youtube.  here is the first link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DP1ACIUHhp4#).

Be warned, there is some language (sometimes the video clips that they use have swearing and such so I wouldn't reccomend it for younger students)

Also to get a real impression of the pressure of women to perform femininity correctly, watch this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uut0bbjKB5M&feature=related#) (no swearing here  ;) )

That'll be my movie for the night.
It involves language?  Oh, No!  Since I've been saved, I don't watch any movies that involve language, so that leaves Charlie Chaplin and Marceau Marceau.

The Mark Whalberg in Shooter?  Jason Bourne dies from a headshot traveling from 1.12 miles away.  He didnt even know he was being targeted and he died before he even heard the shot.

But even if he did know the shot was coming it woudnt matter.  You can run, but you will only die tired.. ;)

Yay!! We ruined it for you!! Naw, this is a fictional battle of what would take place if these two went head to head...  Unless you're just being sarcastic ;)

I keep thinking the title says "The Expandables..."  As in pants?

No one ever knows who Buster was!  And he acted in the talkies later on, but hated it.

Jason Bourne knows how to foil a sniper.  8)

P.S. I saw The Expendables...pretty entertaining but not an epic movie by any means. The Arnold cameo was great, but I think a Clint Eastwood cameo would have really been sweet.

First, read "Wild at Heart" by John Eldredge.  Then decide whether to watch the movie or not.

The movie was entertaining.  Not epic.  Not thought-provoking.  Not classic.  But why anyone goes to the movies for personal enlightenment is beyond me.

Regarding Shooter vs. Bourne: Jack Reacher would have shot the Shooter's bullet out of the sky from 1.13 miles the opposite direction, drained the last of his coffee, then would have arrested both Wahlberg and Bourne.

Double on Wild at Heart.  Great book.

From what I've heard about the movie, it's exactly what it says on the tin.  I might watch it, if the opportunity comes up.

Except Wesley curves a bullet around 9001 buildings to headshoot all three of them.

Except then Buttercup died because he was distracted.

Since when would Wesley use bullets?  Or kill someone who's not directly endangering Buttercup?
