I have never read the book. However, your criticism strikes me as excessive. They aren't teaching the book as law, they asked your daughter to read a work of fiction.
What are your problems about it?
What's so wrong with it? It's a work of fiction, allegorical, and they're not asking you to believe it's law...
My daughter showed me a book she is reading for school, The Alchemist. I had never heard of it, but figured it was a bunch of baloney. Our school system is on the liberal side of the public school norm, which in itself is generally to the far left of the Christian norm. I Googled and Wikipedia'd the book and am more convinced it's a bunch of baloney. The Wikipedia article actually made me chuckle. But I'm interested in the thoughts of those who have read the book, if anyone has. What are your thoughts?

What are your thoughts? This is the statement that led me to believe that you were labeling the book as negative, my mistake. Obviously the book is baloney, it's fiction
