Hi All,
My name is Ash I am a SGT in the Army. I am Chaplain's Assistant. I will be deploying in January 2009. I will be hosting a gaming ministry for my Soldiers, there I plan on teaching them Redemption. Most of my Soldiers come from a MTG or YGO background. So it will be awsome to see how God will use this. Anyway I wanted to say that Covenant games donated two starters for this cause. I just wanted ask for suggestions on a format for learning this game and also your prayers. Who knows maybe some kids from there may learn to play you never know.
Thanks

Hi Ash and welcome to the forum.
I think that having a playgroup among the soldiers is a great idea. The best way to learn the game is to play the game. As you do you will of course run into questions that you don't know the answer to. This forum is a great place to go for answers to those questions.
Also, if your base has internet, then your guys could play with us stateside online by using RTS and Hamachi. In fact, there is even an online tournament that they could participate in. It can be found here. (http://www.cactusgamedesign.com/message_boards/index.php?topic=12850.0)

I have a total of 4 decks right now. I have a Battalion of Infantry Soldiers that span over 4 Forward Operations Bases. I am wanting to leave at least 2 player decks at each FOB so Soldiers can play and fellowship. I would love to give some to Aftgan Children/Youth/Soldiers etc. So any all dontations will be used for that end. If you one wants to my address please email me at howard.robison@us.army.mil

Ash, God bless you for your Redemption mission. All my prayers for your safety and gaming apostolate.
You cannot post a mailing address, right? PM me which address to ship starter decks to while you're still in the U.S. and when you're in Afghanistan.
Godbless!

This really is quite an idea. I've always thought Redemption was a good idea here to reach people but for the troops just seems really amazing. I sent an email so please let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Wow. Awesome idea. I wonder though: if Afghan children get caught with Redemption cards that have quotes from a "non-Koran"???? See where I'm going with this?
:dunno:

I have 5 Muslim kids (all teens) here on Long Island who play the game with certain restrictions but who nonetheless enjoy playing the game. We'll end the discussion here for now since we do not wish to spoil the real purpose of this thread.
LOTS OF STARTER DECKS NEEDED FOR AFGHANISTAN! PLEASE CONSIDER DONATING SOME!

If I had any, I would give you all of them! But I don't. :(

Then maybe extras would do. This is is to get ready when the soldiers and Afghans get into expanding their starters decks. ;)
TO ALL: MORE STARTER DECKS NEEDED!

I could possibly get some with my Christmas money; I have nothing else to spend it on! :D The only problem is that the only place near me that sells them (a Northwestern Bookstore) is all sold out on Redemption cards from the holidays. :-\

@BubbleBoy, buy the decks on threelions, then get his address and have Ken ship them to him. :)

I think that Storehouse might be the answer here. When starting a new playgroup, store bought starter decks aren't the only way to go. In fact, I have found that an easier way to teach the game is to make homemade starter decks that only have 1 brigade on offense and defense. I can't speak for Schaef, but I imagine that the Storehouse could send 1000 cards to Afghanistan without too much trouble. With those cards, he could probably make 10 starter decks like I am talking about.

Hello All,
I wanted to let you all know that the redemption in afghanistan has been stalled. I played one game with my Chaplain before I got injured. I am currently back here in the States working on rehabing. I thought I would update you. Thanks for those who wanted to help.

I broke my left ankle on the side of a mountain while patrolling with my Chaplain. We had gone out over nite at a Patrol base. We held services, then started walking back to our pick up point. I slipped on rock and slid about 10 feet. I was medavac, had surgery I have six pins in my ankle and am on crutches right now. I plan rehabing and going back.
Thanks
Ash
