If I remember right it was a thread where some one posted a party hat |> and in my (I think it was me...) infinite wisdom asked why every one was posting cheese wedges... the thread then became the infamous cheese thread! Some one who has memory better then a 70 year man and remembers more you can enlighten us :P

The cheese thread was the most visible example of a legitimate thread being deleted because a mod didn't understand it. The outcry following its deletion is what lead to the quarantine system.
