Theres a little bit here, but its only the leftovers from the big nasty snow we got pounded with a few weeks ago. Nothing new falling here.

Should I point out this is the 3rd "cold" year (well cold for FL standards) in a row?

In St. Louis, it started snowing last night. Canceled school. In the city it's supposed to get down to 4 degrees, 0 in the county.

You have a 6-sided die numbered 1 to 6. After each roll of the dice, you add 1 all sides. Over time, your rolls will trend higher, even if occasionally you'll get a lower value. Because you see the sequence "6, 7, 3, 4" when rolling, does that mean that your die numbers aren't actually increasing?

Quick post.

That logic fails when you expand it over six years.  After six years, the lowest number you can get is 7.  Once you reach this point (assuming that you had nothing but sixes the first year), it would be impossible to get a record low roll.  However, a lot of places are still reaching record lows.  Hopefully that helps (need to get back to work).

God Bless

Obviously the numbers don't perfectly fit the example, but I was just arguing on a generic level. A trend can still go higher without each individual value being higher.

Hey,

Several counties in northern Florida were closed today because the temperature was too cold for school (30 degrees).

And people were calling Omaha weak for canceling school with two and a half feet of accumulated snow and -10 degree temperatures.  * shakes head *

Floridians need to get a grip and learn how to deal with cold weather. :P

Fun fact:

There was a study done to find correlation between the increase of deaths and cold weather. In Texas, they found that the mortality rate increases significantly as the temperature reaches approximately 34 degrees. The same sharp increase was found in Chicago, but for 11 degrees. They weren't able to find correlation between the two for Minnesota. ;D

Use a flame thrower!

Spoken like a true Floridian...  ;)

The problem with that idea is that after you turn off the flamethrower, the melted snow now freezes in the cold air and becomes ice (which is much worse than snow).
