I fall as one and rise as many
cut and sift and pound me down
put me in a flames red glow
I rise again a golden brown so you may live through my defeat

What am I?

3 Businessmen go into a hotel to rent a room. The manager says it's 30 dollars a room... so the three men pitched in 10 dollars each and got the key and went to their room.  (Check the math if it's correct)

5 minutes later...

The manager realizes that the 3 men are going in a convention and as such, shouldve received a discount in the room and shouldve paid only 25 dollars. So he took 5 singles and gave it to the bellhop and to give it to the 3 men. (Check the math if it's correct)

On the way to the room, the bellhop decided to steal 2 dollars and put it in his pocket. He decided to just give each men a dollar each... so he knocks on the door and give them 3 dollars (check the math if it's correct).

QUESTION: If each men got a dollar back, that means each men paid 9 dollars.  9 x 3 = $27  plus the two dollars in the bellhop's pocket = $29.   Where does the other dollar go?

If u know the answer dont ruin it for those who dont :)

These are pretty much all from the Hobbit.

I've got a Sean Connery riddle for you.

GASP -- I'M POSTING A RIDDLE NOT FROM THE HOBBIT. (I heard/saw this one in school :p)

As you can see in my drawing, 4 men are buried up to their neck in dirt. Each of them CANNOT turn their head and may only see the people in front of them (A can only see the wall, B can only see the Wall, C can only see B, and D can see both C and B). Between them, the men know there are 2 white hats and two black hats. The men cannot talk to each other nor give each other hints, and each man doesn't know what color of hat he is wearing.

If one of the men does not call out his hat color within the next minute, they all lose the game.

Riddle: Which man called out his hat color, and how did he know?

Riddle #1
"My first, tho’ water, cures no thirst,
My next alone has soul,
And when he lives upon my first,
He then is called my whole."

Riddle #2
When my first is a task to a young girl of spirit,
And my second confines her to finish the piece,
How hard is her fate! but how great is her merit
If by taking my whole she effects her release!

Riddle #3
I talk, but I do not speak my mind
I hear words, but I do not listen to thoughts
When I wake, all see me
When I sleep, all hear me
Many heads are on my shoulders
Many hands are at my feet
The strongest steel cannot break my visage
But the softest whisper can destroy me

Because they can use sin and cosin to get their tan!

Nice, took me a while.

10x3-2 does not equal 9x3.

@everyone, please don't post another riddle till the previous is answered. :P

EDIT: @Caleb, the man on the left is looking in the mirror. That's the only way he'd know two black hats and two white.  ;D

EDIT: @Music Maker, he must have started home cause three lefts would bring you back to the same place?  :-\

I'll just do another one.
Fifty men walked down a road. They stopped by an apple tree. The tree had fifty apples. Each took one apple. There were fourty-nine left.
How did it happen?
One of the men was named "Each".
Kirk
Another solution is that the first man took an apple from the tree and each other man took an apple from the last person who had it.  Therefore they all took an apple and the tree still had 49 left.  This is actually more likely than a man having the name "each".

What makes a King out of a slave?
What makes the flag on the mast to wave?
What makes the elephant charge his tusk in the misty mist, or the dusky dusk?
What makes the muskrat guard his musk?
What makes the Sphinx the Seventh Wonder?
What makes the dawn come up like thunder?
What makes the Hottentot so hot?
What puts the ape in ape-ricot?
What have they got that I ain't got?

How 'bout we start answering before we start posting. Might as well try it, huh? :police:

*EDIT* I'll ignore myself. Here's another one.

A man rode to town on Friday. He stayed there for two days and left on Friday.

How did it happen?
I'll just do another one.

The man's mother named him Each. You were right, Kirk.
