So, I was playing around with a few chords and singing random things when inspiration hit me.
You know those annoying rap songs that have a hook that's just the same annoying phrase over and over again? Something like:
When I move you move, just like that
When I move you move, just like that
When I move you move, just like that
When I move you move, just like that
When I move you move, just like that
When I move you move, just like that
When I move you move, just like that
When I move you move, just like that
Over and over again and then some arrogant lyrics about running from the police, smashing things at clubs, drinking, and the ladies?
I came to the realisation that all of the subject matter listed above are not exclusive to rap songs; they're also the only subject matter of country songs (that is, real country, not the stuff you see on CMT*) with the addition of horses and Jesus.
Therefore, I used the rap song formula (the annoying hook over and over again) and all of the typical rap subject matter/mannerisms to write a country song and it turned out grand.
I'm sure whenever my recording equipment gets fixed I'll put up a demo on my myspace.
*Trust me on this one, I live in Nashville.
