I've been talking some to my friends bout the new starters. If I wanted to host a closed local tourney, can I pick what categories to play? Like if I just wanted to do closed deck.

You can always pick whatever categories you would like to host for Local tournaments, whether the tournament is closed or open. District tournaments require that you host at least T1 2p and T2 2p.

I thought you had to host 4 categories for a District.  Did this change?

That is correct Mark. The only categories you need are t1 2p, t2 2p and pick 2 others.

I agree with the above posts, and I believe you can only host two categories max in a closed tournament (you can choose which one(s)).

I think we need to revisit the hosting requirements, and possibly redo the Tournament Guide. The time is ripe, now that we have new starters, a new rulebook, and new requirements for sleeves (which will prevent me from hosting major tournaments since I cannot afford to have packs of sleeves available).

I really do not understand why a host with no one that plays T2 in his group is required to have a T2 category. This gives me no incentive to host a District.

I'm not sure how tightly this old rule actually is.  I suspect that if you talked to Rob about hosting 4 events at a District like T1-2p, T1-mp, TEAMS, and Booster (or Sealed), that he'd probably be ok with it.

What I am saying is that the Tournament Guide should reflect this flexibility, if it indeed exists. Why exactly do we have such a restriction? I would not likely host a tournament without T1-2P, but why are hosts required to have this category?

I'm going to double-post, just to irk the Forum Police.

I checked the Tournament Guide, which reflects the policy that Prof Underwood alluded to. Kirk, you are not required to have T2-2P or T1-2P in a District Tournament. You are only required to have four categories. Only State level and higher require those two categories.

Ken, where did you hear that you can only have two categories for a Closed Tournament? I did not notice that in the Guide.

Back to my original thought... I think the Tournament Guide should be revamped. Right now there are three documents: Guide, Application and Instructions. There is some information that is in the Instructions, but not the Guide. We need to condense all tournament information, including whatever is unwritten, into a single document/webpage. Aspiring hosts should not have to hunt for pertinent information.

I am sufficiently irked.  >:(

I agree that it would be good to have all the documents rolled into one. I haven't looked at any of the documents for awhile, but I agree that having to sort through three different files could be bothersome.

Gonna have to downvote that one for "intentional irking".

Cool, glad to hear it :)

Good idea.  Would you mind putting together a Word document that unifies everything and emailing it to me or one of the other elders?

No thanks. I am no longer hosting anyway. I just thought I would make parting suggestions on how not to irk future hosts.

Huge bummer.  I remember you posting about things being tight for a while.  I'm hoping that this hosting hiatus will be only for a short while.  Florida needs great hosts like you :)

BTW, the hosting application still says that you must have a T1-2p and a T2-2p

Quote from: Host App
Type 1 - 2 Player and Type 2 - 2 Player categories must be offered at all District, State and Regional Tournaments. The remaining categories may be decided by the Host with the input of local players.

Could we also have the official rules for Sealed Deck and Booster Rolled into this new Document?  There are hard to find right now.

I wouldn't have a problem condensing or creating a word document, I just don't know where to find the official Sealed or Booster rules.  I am by nature a function over form person and if the document needs to meet a certain format or has aesthetic requirements that is something I may need help with. I will start work on it tonight if I can.
