For all the pc nerds if a game says it will only play on a minimum of 1gb will it play on 512mb? I know I've played some games *cawfturokcawf* where this applies

It's spelled with a capital R. And they're not gonna win a superbowl for a long time.

Depends on the program.  Most have something that checks your system before launching, and wouldn't work.  Not always the case, though, but it sure won't be a good experience.

There's a difference between "Recommended" and "Minimum".  You might still be able to do it, but bad frame rates abound.  RAM isn't that expensive nowadays.
Random Access Memory.
And it's PC geeks.  Nerds play stuff like Redemption.

Yeah, Ram requirements arent AS strict as say, video cards... but you should be able to get at least 4gb for pretty cheap now.

No, it's pc followers. PC geeks don't exist, they've all bought Macs by now.

A geek knows and has messed with every circuit and bit on his PC.  Someone with a Mac admits he doesn't know how it works, and doesn't care in the least.
Geek: (noun) A person fanatically obsessed with something, most of the time, electronics.
I'm also a drama (as in theater) and debate geek.
And the above shows I'm a geek geek.

You only have to mess with something that doesn't work.

You can only make Linux/Windows/Mac run so well.
If it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.

I resent any all accusations of all geeks running Mac. ;)  I am a geek, and I run Linux (and Windows for my wife).  Mac has its own share of issues I don't like, but I love the flexibility of the PC platform.

:D

To address the original question and try to save this thread from descending into a fanboi spiral( too late probably).  You might be able to run a game on less Ram than required but one of a few things will happen(Ranked in order of likeliness:

1.  The installer says you fail(Not enough RAM) and won't install
2.  The game will run at an unusually slow pace(we are talking molasses in January speed folks)
3.  The game will crash, occasionally taking the Operating system with it.  On a rare occasion it may wreck your PC (your PC would have to be a real wuss for this to happen  though)
4. It will run correctly.

Those are your options there may be one I forgot but someone else may remember it faster than I.  Depending on your machine I would just invest in some RAM.
In AMERICA!!
