Concerns...

I am very new to playing Redemption, and also to these message boards.  I am feeling a bit disillusioned about how often I see people mistreating each other in this arena, e.g. flaming, critical comments, sarcasm (the non-humorous kind), etc.  I know we are all humans and imperfect, but God calls us to be good stewards of our tongues.  I can honestly say that when I have posted looking for help, clarification, etc. I have had nothing but positive responses, but sometimes while reading other requests for help, I see what starts out as different interpretations of rules or opinions degrade into sniping.  I could imaging other new people feeling hesitant about looking for help and advice if that were to continue.  I would kindly ask that people try to pause for a moment before posting and be sure that what they have to offer is going to promote our testimony to Christ and His work through this great game.  I have sincerely enjoyed the fellowship and generosity of this community, and would like to see it grow.  Thanks for reading!

Thanks to both for your replies...to be honest, I haven't paid attention so much to who specifically, but really just wanted to leave a kind reminder to folks to be self-aware... :)

One point of clarification here is that on this forum, the members are closer than on most forums. It's kind of like walking in of a Thanksgiving dinner with everyone at the table taking pot shots at each other and bringing up that one time Reggie dated that ugly girl and how everyone hates Grandma's driving. Then the next day they're all best of friends again.

I would agree that accounts for some of it, but not all.

Maynid, I appreciate your courage in speaking up especially as a newer member.

I agree with you that meanness shouldn't be apart of these forums or a Christian's life in general.  To me, it doesn't matter how well you know someone (family or friends), Christians shouldn't make hurtful comments.  In fact, "good nature ribbing" goes against 2 of the 9 fruits of the spirit: kindness and gentleness.  One could make an argument for love too, but people have differing opinions on how they want to be treated.

I, too, have found some recent threads sad, disheartening, and off putting.  Hopefully, this is a good reminder for things to get better. :grouphug:

Kindness and Gentleness are not violated by "good natured" anything. By definition it would be "bad natured" if it did.

I agree and that is why I used quotation marks.  Most people on the giving end pass off their insulting remarks as "good natured" when in fact the person on the receiving end feels it is "bad natured."  I am hard pressed to acknowledge any kind of good natured ribbing when at its core is one person insulting another.

Then again, maybe I'm just getting old.   :kenobi:

For what its worth:  that is one of the top things I get on the teens all the time, one of them insulting another.  I don't know why I have to keep repeating the message to my group, "church is suppose to be a safe place: physically, emotionally, and psychologically."

I feel that is the message that Maynid is talking about.

I totally get the good natured ribbing thing...happens in my family too...it's just harder to discern for a new person, and when you have text only (albeit the emoticons help!)  ;)

Haha you think this forum is bad come on over to my main forum nowadays (I've taken a break freom redemption) talkbass.com....its like a big thanksgiving dinner and everyone loves each other...and then begins to swear and insult each other profusely and then we're friends again....yays!

which I like its good to have a place to relax and have very minimal rules....this board can get uptight which is another reason I've quit posting.
