I don't know why it took me forever to post this... but I was thinking about it the other night. Maybe I just wanted some confirmation on how much a Noob I am.
So who would you pick on your team in booster draft (ROA). Both cards came out of the same pack...so only 1 is an option. Votes:
a.) Messenger of Satan May band to any Evil Character 7
b.) Emperor Claudius Immune to NT heroes 3
If you feel inclined to argue why, then that's fine, but no insulting someone's choices...because one of those choices was mine. >:(
Oh and just for fun, if you weren't at NE regionals, then you can guess which 1 that this noob (soul seeker) picked. [I still got my typical medal though. ;) ]
Guess at my noobiness: MoS Emp. C
1 1
-
You picked emp claud because immune to half the heroes in the game is a great thing not realizing that mess of stan could band to him?
I'd choose messenger of satan. Banding is teh hax in BD.

+1. I always draft as many banding characters for good and evil. If someone was lucky enough to draft an awesome, virtually non-defeatable character, then I want to band to him.
-
messenger of satan, hands down.
-
Messenger of Satan because you can then band to a whole lot of stuff that's out on the table. Immunity isn't that great against NT because most of the NT stuff that you'll see is white and RoA white easily deals with immunity.
-
Messenger of Satan assuming I am not building a Gold defense.
-
I'm guessing most of the time I pick MoS, but it's also depends greatly on the situation.

The situation: I got a crappy tin for booster draft (the one with Gen. Widow & Thankful Leper) and I had Smokey, Nurge, and a RLK at my table to draft with.
-
It's definately MoS for you based solely on the fact you have one of the NT tins.
-
I'd pick Emp Claudius... he doesn't need someone else to block.
-
Messenger of Satan in a Heartbeat. If you do Claudius as a standalone, and they have a nt offense, he's done. But satan is a great splash.
-
I doubt very much that I would pick either of them. When I am drafting I am focusing on offense. I will pick a decent enough hero over MoS and EC.
Now if it came down to just those two, it still would depend on what has been drafted to that point. Most of the time I am taking MoS. But if I had drafted the NT only ls, I might be inclined to take EC.
-
But satan is a great splash.
Really o_O
:P
-
Yeah, he makes quite the splash when you bring him along on your date.
-
Emp Claudius hands down.
-
+1 with tyler.
-
Thanks for the votes so far, I like how nobody is guessing at my noobiness. :)
-
Clearly you were an epic n00b and picked the extra Son of God in the pack. Then you won by playing two in a row.
-
Emperor Claudius, not even a choice.
When I draft, I go for solely offense, it's quite rare that I'll have more than a 10 card defense (my deck at Nationals this past year has 8, I believe). So having a character that can just be thrown down for a quick block one turn (or for intimidation), much better than a little 2/3 character when there aren't big enough characters to band to.
My Booster theory is: Win in 5-7 turns, or lose. Hit hard, hit every turn, and pray you get one or two good defensive cards to stop the one person who also has four souls redeemed.
-
Yeah, he makes quite the splash when you bring him along on your date.
xp supa dupa fu-knee!
-
I'd probably pick Messenger of Satan. You can use other people's huge characters to block or bring one into a battle that you'll lose anyway to kill him off. ;)
I'm guessing that you picked Emperor Claudius in your n00biness.
-
Messenger of Satan hands down. MoS is a stand alone, you dont need to draft any other pale green cards to use him, you will always have options for him to band to. Emperor Claudius is good too, but he is only immune to NT heros (there are a LOT of OT heros out there) so his effectiveness is limited. Claudius is a great pick, but I always pick the bander first in any booster draft.
-
banding is always better in draft. in 2005, i won my draft title just by soley drafting single panic demons/obsidian minions which i also knew almost everyone at nats would also be drafting from aw. not only is it an epic defensive option, but most people do not realize its also an offensive card as well. if you band to someones big baddie that is giving you a hard time, then you force a player to also take out said baddie for you to get through in a future rescue attempt. one of the reasons i now tech texp gomer in almost every t1 2p deck i make, if i know there are certain oft-used ec's that are troublesome to my offense.
however, if claudius also came back around the table after drafting all banders, then it would be a close second choice. big numbers are huge in draft.

Booster theory? I thought that was your theory in every game :)

MoS is a stand alone,
:o
But a 10/11 immune to NT isn't...? What happens when you play me and Ben who only play with maybe 4-6 ec's and a couple auto block evil enhs, who are you going to band to. Besides a 2/3 bander is just like an additional enhancement for numbers. If you have nothing to band to or play on him he is worthless, but a 10/11 immunity is booster is very scary.
-
MoS every time.
-
I have another question. What if you had a choice between PotW or KoT? Which one would you choose?

Yes it is....except that he is only immune to Half the characters in Booster draft. And while there MAY be a table where I run into people who dont draft defense, many people DO draft defense often at a 50/50 or 60/40 good/evil rate. Chances are Excellent that I will be able to band to the emperor claudius that you drafted....or the Potw that someone else drafted, or the Philly garrison that someone pulled from a tep.....on and on and on.
And for the other question, PotW is better than KoT. My line up looks like this
Banding>Immune>Negate>High Numbers
I always keep an eye out for interesting combos, but unless i see some nice SA combo, these are my guiding prinicpals
-
Prince. Immune > Negate.
Well - that depends, if its a warriors KoT from TexP I'm taking it for my collection.

yeah from texp
-
I'd take KOT then. Yellow KOT's gots some high trade value.
-
lol I meant for booster...not for trade...but yeah, i'd keep kot over prince trade wise anyways...
-
potw. almost every battle of draft is fbtn anyways.

Booster is a balance of "What helps my deck?", "What do I need to complete my collection?", and "What is worth the most?".
People will draft DON over any other card. Why? Because of its price, not because people use artifacts.
-
I am predicting that soul seeker took Messenger of Satan in his inexperience like most of the other noobs on here, I would sacrifice all of my picks, tear through all of the packs in the building searching for buckler, and make it my deck. Then go on to win Nationals.

True but that wasn't an option.
Though with his NT offense, Claudius would wreck havok.

This is a good point. For players with larger collections you will probably see them continue to take the priciest cards in booster at the local and district level. I know at State level and above, I will only take cards that I think will help me win the title, because it's all about winning at that level. ;)

.except that he is only immune to Half the characters in Booster draft.
You say that like it's a bad thing...being immune to HALF the heroes in BD is a win. And if you have mostly NT heroes and are afraid of a bander do not put him down until you need him. Also the top decks in booster are 70-80% offense 20-30% defense. I have won/top 2 in every booster I have played in for the past year, minus at nationals I was a lost soul away from 3rd if I remember correctly. Either way I usually win BD and I know what it takes to make a winning BD deck. Almost all offense with a few big EC's and a couple aute block EE's. But then again we play differently and what works for me might not for you. I am not saying your choice is wrong, but I do think Claudius is the better pick.

you got 2nd at GA state i belive?i know cliff killed in that tourny.(booster draft)

See I disagree, I like a 50/50 or 60/40 split, mostly because I use banders on both offense and defense and they really help my offense and defense. I also use artifacts :D those things are beastly in BD

I drafted household idols and somebody had the red booster tin with the banding red warrior class...shut him down quick
