Nominations for the HoF Class of 2012
« on: August 30, 2012, 04:55:53 PM »

For the next 3 weeks, I welcome everyone to contribute any nominations for a Redemption Hall of Fame class of 2012.  These will be taken to the Hall of Fame Advisory Committee, and will then return in Sept when everyone will be able to vote for the candidates that they feel are most deserving.  Then 1 player and 1 contributor who receive the most votes will enter here.

I would appreciate all input onto this thread being positive.  Please state why someone deserves to be a candidate as opposed to why someone doesn't.  If you have any reason why someone should be excluded (steroid use, etc.) please PM me about it.  :)

Feel free to share interesting stories about each of the nominees in addition to your reasons for nomination.  Have fun all.  :)

P.S.  For reference, the HoF:AC is made up of XeroSplash, mosestaff, SirNobody, slugfencer, tcmgoingon60, everytribe, faithraider, Prof Underwood, crustpope, lightningninja.

I would like to nominate some people from previous years:
Players:
Joshua Hey – [T2-2p, T2-mp (x2)] - 4th place overall RNRS when he left the game.  One of only 3 players to place in the top 3 at Nats in 3 different events in the same year.
Eric Kimmons – [T2-2p (x2), T2-mp (x2)] - Only player ever to win 4 Nats in a row.  One of 2 players who have won at 4 different Nats at all.
Sam Nurge – [Sealed, Booster] - Winning the two "random" events in the same year, proving it isn't quite so random
Kevin Shride - Elder, Nats winner [T2-2p, TEAMS x3]
Daniel Whitten - [T1-mp x2]
Jonathan Greeson - [T1-2p, T2-mp]
John Earley - Elder, Nats winner [T2-mp, TEAMS]

Contributors:
Roy Cruz – the Heart of Redemption, Nats host, Elder
John Michaliszyn – Nats host, Creation Festival Guru, Elder
Stephen Schaefer – Creator and manager of the Storehouse, Overlord of the online forum, Nats host, Elder
Mike Wolfe - Currently creating "Redemption Live" to replace RTS
Nathaniel Pearsons - Long-time host and leader of Redemption in the midwest.

I nominate Nathan Voigt. He's won 3 national titles (T2 2p, T2 Multi, and T1 multi) and 3 RNRS titles (same 3).

I nominate Jordan Alstad. He's placed at Nats (not sure what exactly), is and elder and moderator, has some of the most fun yet very competitive T2 decks that I love to see played, one of the few players who plays heroless and succeeds quite well with it, and most of all, he's a great older brother. :D

I can third that. He is also one of the youngest players to win a Regional tournament (NC Regional at age 11--I think Kurt Hake may have been younger with his first but not sure).

But Nathan had to beat Tim Maly to win it...

Also, it was in T1-2P, which is kind of interesting because he's now a T2 player.

Fourtheded. (Fourthed isn't a word so I thought I'd make it more fun. :P) Mainly because he's been a good role-model in Redemption and he's one of the best T2 players I know, which I admire since I enjoy T2 somewhat more than T1.

Now that I think of it, he also won a t2 only. I believe he's the 4th player to do that. The others were Justin x 2, Tim x 2, and Gabe x 3. Notice something?

That was off the top of my head. May be inaccurate.

He has been nominated before, and you are welcome to nominate him again.  However with a bunch of people who are multiple nationals winners in the player category...

We are running thinner on the "contributor" side of things though if someone would like to nominate some more people for that spot.

Until I'm granted admin access and fix everything round here (hehehe) there's really only one person I can think of as a contributor and that's Sean Templeton (Lord Zardek). Although RC! is not currently functional i don't think anyone would argue that it didn't bring a massive contribution to expanding and simplifying online play while it was around (except maybe Pol since it seemed like he was ALWAYS having problems with it). Coupled with the fact that he is working on getting it back running and I think that's a good enough contribution to Redemption to receive consideration.

On kind a of a dual sided nomination, I would also like to nominate an inactive player. Though he hasn't played Redemption in a few months G. Randall Koutnik won an RNRS National Championship, and placed in..something else at the national level in the 2011 season. I'm blanking on what the other trophy was he brought home. He also took first in 2 regional categories that same year and at least one state category. Aside from his accomplishments in game, he is also primarily responsible for two New York play groups in the Rochester playgroup he founded himself, and the Buffalo playgroup that was founded by a former member of his playgroup. Without Randall, neither of those playgroups would have ever existed. He also volunteered his time to expand Redemption on multiple occasions, including at Dexcon in 2011 when he and I spent 3 days in New Jersey spreading Redemption every opportunity we could. So for these reasons, Koutnik 2012!
