Nominations for the HoF Class of 2010
« on: June 02, 2010, 01:54:03 AM »
0
For the next 3 weeks, I welcome everyone to contribute any nominations for a Redemption Hall of Fame class of 2010.  These will be taken to the Hall of Fame Advisory Committee, and will then return on the 1st of July when everyone will be able to vote for the candidates that they feel are most deserving.  The people receiving the most votes will then enter here.

I would appreciate all input onto this thread being positive.  Please state why someone deserves to be a candidate as opposed to why someone doesn't.  If you have any reason why someone should be excluded (steroid use, etc.) please PM me about it.  :)

Feel free to share interesting stories about each of the nominees in addition to your reasons for nomination.  Have fun all.  :)

P.S.  For reference, the HoF:AC is made up of XeroSplash, mosestaff, SirNobody, slugfencer, everytribe, faithraider, crustpope, lightningninja, and myself.

I would like to nominate some people from last year's slate:
Quote
Keith Bartram – [T1-2p (x3)] - Winning Redemption's biggest event at nats every time he went.
Joshua Hey – [T2-2p, T2-mp (x2)] - 4th place overall RNRS when he left the game.  One of only 3 players to place in the top 3 at Nats in 3 different events in the same year.
Gabe Isbell – [T1-2p (x2), T2-2p, Teams] - Forced Redemption to create TGT to stop his T1 defense, and the hand limit to stop his T2 combo.  Both may have been created by others, but Gabe piloted them in a way that won Nats and changed the game.
Eric Kimmons – [T2-2p (x2), T2-mp (x2)] - Only player ever to win 4 Nats in a row.  One of 2 players who have won at 4 different Nats at all.
Tim Maly – [T1-2p (x2), T2-2p] - Consistently at the top for many years, and helping create the "new REG"
Sam Nurge – [Sealed, Booster] - Winning the two "random" events in the same year, proving it isn't quite so random
Mike Berkenpas – Author and Keeper of the REG, Elder
Roy Cruz – the Heart of Redemption, Nats host, Elder
Doug Gray – Artist, original owner of 3LG, Playtester
Bryon Hake – Primary card designer, Settler of forum disputes, Nats host, Elder, 2x Nats winner [T2-2p]
John Michaliszyn – Nats host, Creation Festival Guru, Elder
Stephen Schaefer – Creator and manager of the Storehouse, Overlord of the online forum, Nats host, Elder
I would also like to nominate some people who were brought up last time as being very deserving.
Bill Voight
Kevin Shride
Mike Wolfe
Josh Kopp
Daniel Whitten
Eric Largent

I don't really think I belong in the conversation with most of these guys, just for doing some organizational stuff in lieu of any significant competitive accomplishment.  It's a Hall of Fame, not a Hall of Accommodation.  I know that's not "positive input", I'm just sayin'.

Im not too sure why Nathaniel Pearsons name hasnt been brought forward yet, he was a major player until about 3 years ago when his body tried to shut down. He created Redemption Kansas which has now gone International, He has brought in some of the most controversial players who have played the game ( Cooper, Nesfeder to name a few), Owned and opperated a game store in Emporia, Ks that primarily sold Redemption, would always have tournaments for the local play group at his youth group... The list goes on and on... it would be a disjustice to all who have ever had the privliage to meet Nathaniel for him to not get the bid for HoF 2010

i second marines nomination, Nathanial Pearson (rpgdirector) used to be a huge player/contributor in the Midwest towards the game before his sickness took over his body forcing him to retire from redemption and shut down his store. i can't think of a more deserving person.

I appreciate your modesty, but I feel like you deserve to be nominated, so I did :)

You can nominate as many people as you like.  And Tyler is a great addition.

Nathaniel Pearson
An interesting aside.  If it weren't for Nathaniel, I wouldn't be playing Redemption today.  And he's never even met me.

Thanks for the nominations everyone.  Please keep them coming :)

How is that, if you don't mind sharing?

I was in a group home in Emporia, KS. when he took time out his schedule to come to our "home" and teach us the game of Redemption. Its without saying we were not the best behaving teens, yet he gave us free starter decks, packs, and something to keep our minds off the crummy situation we were in.  He didnt have to do it, but thats the kind of person Nate is. I believe had not for him and Redemption my life would have went alot diffrently. To this day I must say I still see him as a "local missionary". His illness has caused him to retire, but many of us are still thankful for his efforts and remain in our prayers.

I don't know how "hot" any of these people are, but being nominated a single time is sufficient to send them to the HoF Advisory Committee.  That committee will then return to the forum with a list of manageable size for everyone to vote on.

I had dropped Redemption for about 10 years until a student of mine dragged me back into the game kicking and screaming in 2005.  That student had been taught the game by Nataniel Pearson when she had been part of his regular playgroup.  If he hadn't taught her, she wouldn't have gotten me to play, and I would still have an "A&B starter deck with a few blue packs worth of cards" sitting in a box in my closet.

Just curious...how is the selection process going to work when some of the people on the 'committee' have also been nominated?

That is a very good question.  Basically, when discussing any nominee who happens to be on the HoFAC, we will go into a "closed-door" session to discuss that nomination.  In other words, I won't type their name into the "to:" part of the PM :)

Also, I had a good conversation tonight with someone who reminded me about GamerX who created the RTS program that most of us use to play Redemption online.  If someone could let me know what his real name is, I'd like to add him to our list of nominees.

Nominations are now closed.  Thanks for the input.  The HoFAC (Hall of Fame Advisory Committee) will come back with the slate of candidates for voting in early July :)
