Good grief... anyone else watch the ravens and vikings go at eachother? Why'd you have to miss that FG....

Believe it or not, in the long run the outcome should help the Ravens more than the Vikings.

I know, it shows they are still a force to be reckoned with. I say the reason the ravens lost is because of those two freak TD's in the first quarter. That was unacceptable.

Also, poor titans. That is all.

I say the reason the Ravens lost is because the Viking's defense was so beastly in the second half.

The vikings defense wasn't beastly in the last half... we scored 28 points the the last two quarters.

wowowowowow... 0-45 at the half. I can honestly see a 60 point lead happening, 2 td's and a fg away from it. I'm not crazy about the pats, but they may have a chance to set some records here. XD

tbh I don't think this was a very good week for football. Baltimore-Minnesota and Chicago-Atlanta were great games, but what else do you have today?

The Saints embarrassing the Giants defense
Green Bay and New England shutting out two horrible teams
Pittsburgh winning a game whose only significance was picking up a game on the entire division
Cincinnati getting schooled by the Texans, of all teams
Washington and Philadelphia getting beat by bad teams

I looked around and all I saw was a lot of bad football. Even Buffalo and the Jets, an OT game to which they cut away after the Pats went up 52-0, was characterized more by what the teams didn't do, then what they did. I just didn't have much to get excited about.

I'll tell you who looked really good tonight, though, were both Jay Cutler in his new duds and especially Matt Ryan.

yeah this was a really bad week in football. THose games were horrible. And I hate people who talk about running up the score as if it is a bad thing. These people are in the NFL. This isnt Jr. high football. If a team can score 100 points on another, they shouldn't be demonized for it, but it should SHAME the people who fielded the losing team.

Tennessee is embarrasing themselves (and the AFC South) everytime they step on the field recently.

Agreed. Professional football is exactly that: professional. It is their job, their living. Tom Brady does not get paid to make the Titans feel better. He gets paid to throw touchdown passes. If he's on the field, he's going to do his job.

The Pats called off the dogs in the second half anyway so I don't know why anyone would complain about their handling of the game.

I was watching the Eagles/Raiders game, and I have to agree... ew. Bad, bad, bad football. I'm not an Eagles fan (I prefer the Steelers), but my roommate is, so that's what was on the big screen TV yesterday afternoon. It was quite the pathetic game... and if the rest sounds as awesome as Schaef described it (note my sarcasm...), it was the week of crappy football....

Agreed about the bad football statements, it made my sunday a little boring since teams were playing so badly.

But, how about Dante Wesley's hit?! Wow. That was intense. Props to the refs on preventing too big of a fight on the field though. I've watched the replay at least a dozen times, I love the immediate reaction of the crowd and watching the Bucs sideline throw their arms up and run onto the field. Wesley is lucky it wasn't too serious, just a concussion and Smith might be out next game.

Actually I didnt. I just read it after I saw your post and I fully agree with it. In fact, I think every game SHOULD be about piling on as many points as possible. Then it becomes a punitive action for the other teams abject failure (and it may make some of these blowout games worth watching if only just to see how high they set the mark.)

Now taking out brady was probably a good thing. No need to risk injury when the game is already out of reach, but I dont think any team should put on the brakes just because they feel bad for the other team. You want a 10 run slaughter rule, go back to little league.

The only conclusions that I can come to after yesterday:

God must be a Vikings fan.

And He hates the Titans.

And Daunte Culpepper has to be one of the most tragic stories in the NFL aside from deaths/life-altering injuries. How does a former Pro-bowl quarterback sink to the point of being a backup on one of the NFL's worst teams, and then is completely awful when he is given a chance to play? All within the span of a few years.

Fields goals aren't automatic--if they had missed an extra point or 19 yard FG, then maybe I would concede that the Ravens gave it away, but it was a 42 yard FG. The Vikings made more big plays than the Ravens and deserved to win. Yes the Vikings let a big lead get away, but the Ravens are a good team and good teams are able to get back into games. It also didn't help that our secondary got banged up in a game where the other team had to rely on the pass to catch up.

We also saw why icing the kicker isn't as ridiculous as some people claim.

The dirty secret of Culpepper was that he wasn't quite as awesome as advertised in the first place. People rave about his early years in Minnesota - mostly when defenses struggled to contain a running quarterback (see also: Vick) and Moss was on the other side of the ball - and sort of gloss over the part where he had a bunch of fumbles and picks. Culpepper's downside was just as volatile as his upside, and my contention is a good offense kept his mistakes from exposing his "real" talent as an NFL quarterback.
