Any call on these being played at Nats?

I personally hope that they can't be used but that a special exception could be made for sealed.

I actually am hoping the same thing. Nationals is a little close to the release for them to be playable, except in sealed.

A month is plenty of time. MTG's pro tours(which are larger with more stakes than our nationals) happen two weeks after a set comes out. This rediculously boring stale meta needs new cards by nationals.

And Magic is profit fueled and focused. Redemption is player focused and hopefully won't force a massive card but right befor Nats amongst the players who wish to be competitive.

Redemption has done it before. Back before we shifted Nationals to august from october Nationals happened after a set released. Magic also seems pretty Player focused. $40,000? Seems they care about taking care of the bills of a pro tour winner. Dannnnng

I'm pretty sure Rob intends to make these cards legal shortly after their release. That's part of the catalyst for him to allow the early release on RTS. It gives players a chance to get familiar with the new cards and then acquire the new cards when they become available. Most (if not all) of the elders agree with and support that. I expect the new starter and tin cards to be legal at Nationals.

Don't take that as official but that is what I believe is happening.

Most of the players using RTS are top teir players already and there are some that can't get acess to it for a series if reasons.

I know personally if they are allowed at Nats I will not be able to use the cards at all before then. I also can barely afford the trip to Nats and adding a 30+ filler charge for the new set will be hard for me to swing.

Still ill get behind whatever decision the elders make.

Agreed but a list and playing with cards are very different things.

Agreed but a list and playing with cards are very different things.

Some of the best players don't play on RTS, including Martin, the previous Nats champion. Matt Stupenski is another name off the top of my head who is probably top 10, but doesn't even have an online account (or if he does he never uses it).

This may be true but you can't tell me that they will be at no disadvantage to top tier players who do get a chance with cards prior to the in hand experience.

Matt is on here (and used to play RTS)...his board name is Redemptioncousin. I think he posted just the other day.

Doesn't change my argument at all and there was no new set last year to deal with. I contend he wouldn't have been as likely to have that success under these pending conditions

RTS players have always had an advantage over non-RTS players. They can practice with any deck combination they want without having to own the cards, against other top players, at any time.

Actually, I was going to do that myself. It will only be 110 cards combined, and I already have a good system set up after adding 600-some missing cards previously. Shouldn't take me too long once I get all the info organized.

That's true regardless of the circumstances though. I may get a chance to play more games with my deck than someone who doesn't have RTS, but that's going to be the case every single year.

It's a starter deck, so I wouldn't imagine major revisions would be necessary when you get to nationals. And the few cards in your deck that would change can be easily proxied to practice with until the tournament.

Maybe the starters won't change all that much (though I still suspect they will mix up the meta at least a bit), but the cards from the tin so far look pretty game-changing to me.

I have a really hard time buying the idea that very many players can't get access to RTS. All it takes is a computer and there are very few people that don't have one of those these days. Westy even figured out how to make RTS work on a Mac and made it available to the public so that's no longer an excuse. There are some technical hurdles to jump through for less computer savvy people, but we have experienced users who are willing to assist new people. It's not a complex program so if the desire is there it will be figured out. If someone isn't using RTS I venture to say that in most instances that is by choice.
