previously, there's been a wii, and I'll be surprised if someone doesn't bring it again, since we love us some brawl. at MN State, we had some Halo 3 going on (CoD was ruled as being too violent for the kiddies). but that was brought by Soundman or Hobbit.
and there will be TONS of board games going on.

I can bring a Wii if needed, but I won't unless someone tells me to.

if we have a 360, we shouldn't need a wii. Martin can own us at Halo instead...

Nazi Zombies in all seriousness has to be the best thing CoD has come up with. My record is level 45 with just me and my friend.

Just one note...

The gaming area is in the same room and in view of the Redemption playing area. This will greatly restrict the games that will be played. Last year, we had a parent complain about their child being able to see Super Smash Brothers Brawl, which is about the upper limit of where we want to go during the official tournament hours.

So the off-hours gaming will run from about half an hour after the Friday sessions concludes (guessing 10:30 pm) through 7:00 am or so on Saturday morning, T- and reasonable M-rated games will be allowed. For the rest of the time you need to choose from amongst the variety of games SSBB and milder for video diversions.

also, does the church have wifi?

Yes, but depending on where in the church the tournament is actually held, the signal might not be very strong. You might have to ask MJB.

gotcha. will cod be allowed during after-hours? i do not find its material (especially mw2, which is far less toned down than predecessors) any more violent than halo. there is also no blood as far as i can tell.

This is fabulous news for me, because I hate FPS games.

Except when you get shot. Or noob tube'd. Or you fall. Or if you get hit with a smoke grenade on the foot. Then there is blood all over your screen.

i wouldnt say thats blood really...it doesnt even look like blood, just your screen getting filling up red as a way to tell how much damage you're taking.

You die if someone tosses a knife at your foot. I don't think mw2 is 100% accurate.
That being said, yes. Without a doubt. Why? Because I said it was. And I am always right*.

*and that statement must be true, for I'm always right.

i dont think what people realize is call of duty is an arcade shooter, not a straight up realism shooter. you also dont die from taking 2 melee hits from a riot shield.

as for the knife, in most cases using a standard issue military knife on a person could very well result in a kill. i'd say a tac knife is even deadlier.

Two things...

The church does indeed have Wi-Fi, but I am not sure if it is available for public use.  As of last year at this time, they had the Wi-FI password protected, and they did not want to share the password with anyone outside of the church staff.  On the bright side, if you have T-Mobile, they upgraded their Twin Cities network just yesterday to HSPA+.  I get over 1.5 Mbps tethered to my laptop. Yay me!

Second, I have asked for an expert opinion from JSB on what M games should be allowed.  I did tell him that I didn't think a church was a good place for zombies or other forms of the undead* and that seeing blood made me a bit woozy. That pretty much explains the basis for his list above. I will clarify that "Halo" means "any version of Halo." Once again these games are only allowed from 11 pm - 7 am.

*I told JSB the undead rule also applied to board games, and he is highly disappointed he can't bring his new favorite game (pictured below) to the tournament. He's taking this all pretty hard, so please don't stir up any further trouble.

Also, The Ungame is banned.  Please do not ask why, and do not argue with me.

mjb, im assuming the restriction list applies mostly in part to m-rated games, correct? we are free to play any rated T or below game as long as it follows your other rules (no undead), correct?

reason im asking because im interested in bring transformers: war for cybertron, a T rated game.

That is correct.  T-rated games are, however, restricted during the official tournament hours except on a case-by-case basis (SSBB being one that I will allow).

The church does indeed have Wi-Fi, but I am not sure if it is available for public use.

There is a public network available in some areas of the church that I have used frequently, but the strongest one in the Great Hall is private. I guess I wouldn't depend on it, especially for anything other than light internet use (i.e. gaming may be difficult).

And I'm really disappointed that we can't play Twilight. Now, there seems to be no reason for me to stay after-hours, so I guess I'll go home and spend the night with my wife...disappointing... ;)

I'm not a rlk, am I?

No. But I will personally ensure that you are disallowed from playing Halo. Mom would only let us play GoldenEye with paintballs when I was your age. So it's only fair.
