They were discussing a pokemon video game, not a card game. Also, there are entire forums dedicated to discussing mainstream (competing) games.

LotR is also defunct, and therefore NOT a competing product anymore.

Ah so only products Redemption is not competing with can be mentioned.  Rob must be a Capitalist...
A bad one, at that, if this is his solution.  (That is, if he's the one who came up with this rule).  If Redemption cannot stand up to other products (which I believe it can) then banning the mention of them is not the solution.  Creating a better Redemption is.

There needs to be a better reason behind these rules than "They compete with Redemption."

he sounds like an extemist (aka from Florida).
I found this really funny, considering where you live :)

Florida is well known for harboring wackos, which is why I was told to move here. I'm sure the Quran-burning pastors down here also burned Pokemon cards back in the day.   ;)

... and also avoiding promotion of a competing product on the Redemption forum.

I doubt that this is a reason. I would guess that most CCG players play more than one CCG. Are you saying that if I started a thread about Hot Wheels Acceleracers CCG that it would be deleted?

Also, there's really no way that guy was ever really a Satanist. Just saying.

Don't forget hanging chads and Tim Tebow.

They were discussing a pokemon video game, not a card game.

Unfortunately, the belief system at the time was based on boycotts, which is all-inclusive. As it was, I had to smuggle the large Lugia action figure that made screeching noises (like from the movie) into my house so my son could play with it without being burned at the stake.

Pokemon is quite Satanic to be honest, check out this video it's very interesting.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5vZ14Ozqzw&feature=related

I'm watching that video and only six minutes in. A few things have come to my attention:
1. That mullet is clearly not of God.
2. Enchanters are people enchant? Wowzorz.
3. He just implied that most of the male members of the congregation were abominations.

So now we are enforcing rules based on wacko floridian boycotts. Okay.  ::)

Like I said, if you go looking for it...A conspiracy theorists sees the symbol on Poliwhirls chest and thinks OCCULT SYMBOL!! I think oh it looks like a whirlpool, Poliwhirl, uses Whirlpool as an attack. Same with Pikachu's lightning bolt tail, he's an electric type, and uses Thundershock, Thunderbold, Thunder, and other various forms of lightning (yes I realize that thunder is the sound, I don't know why they did that but it's a common thing for some stupid reason.)

The boycotts were from the Southern Baptist Convention, which covers a lot more territory than Florida, and had a lot more weight back in 1999 (no fat jokes please).

Teletubbies were Satanic because they had no educational value. They were using "baby-talk" rather than words, which caused digression in preschoolers. They also had bad manners.  ;)

Barney, on the other hand, taught real words and manners. If he wasn't a dinosaur (another boycott), then the SBC would have embraced him wholeheartedly.

There is no way Pokemon can possibly be viewed as 'the competition'. If they are, then it is a competition Redemption has lost for 15 years.

I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

Removal FAQ:

Why the post was removed: there was a link included that referenced the related rule.

That rule is old!  Rules have expiration dates?

That rule is dumb!  Not my rule.

I should get to talk about whatever I want, even if other people consider it inappropriate for the venue!  Not really, no.

Some other thread somewhere else didn't get this or that or the other thing.  You caught the mods being something less than 100% vigilant and 110% perfect.  Cookie forthcoming.

But this thread wasn't removed!  This is not the first time public discussion has taken place regarding a rule someone questioned.  I don't really see the comparison.

Rob bans discussion on all competing products!  No.  As Jon has rightly pointed out, in the larger CCG market, Redemption is a small fish in a big pond.

We can't have discussions about the underlying mechanics of card games!  In point of fact, discussions about the mechanical aspects of Magic and Pokemon HAVE been allowed in the past and continue to be so, provided that is the thrust of the discussion.  When Teams play was being developed, there were comparative analyses with the Two-Headed Giant format in Magic.

You posted in this thread a couple days after we talked about this and it got locked!  I'm late to the party but, aside from the fact that I find it odd that people want to come back and complain about a rule every other time a thread gets locked, there were some other odd ideas about why the rule exists, and I saw value in putting those ideas to rest.  This is not an argument or a debate, it is only a statement: the rules say no Pokemon, so a Pokemon thread was removed.  It's that simple.
