Does anyone have any suggestions on what movie to see in theatres this month or next month?

Also has anyone seen Avatar and is it good?

go to Avatar. a bit messed up, but amazing movie. it's not so bad that Christians should avoid it because of the world view. it's a fantastic movie.

on a side note, I heard Holmes was even better. and I've heard Princess and the Frog was good as well...

I heard that holmes was very deamonic I probably wouldn't see it because of that.

thank you for the suggestions but it seems that our film industry has yet again hit a low and has only made a couple of really good films. 

I've been curious how that movie turned out... good production quality? was it well acted?

That's kind of what Sherlock Holmes is all about...exposing things that seem supernatural with logic. It reminded me a lot of Frank Peretti's book Hangman's Curse (it was a good book made into a so-so movie). It doesn't outright say that supernatural things are all fake (as we all know they're not) but rather that people too often use the fear and mystery associated with the supernatural for their own gain (which is true).

I'm not saying that you should see it if you have reservations, but I thought it was an excellent movie.

Avatar is incredible and definitely see it in 3D.  It is very unique and I went twice.  I have also heard Holmes is amazing, though I'm going to wait until dvd cause I'm poor.   The Blind Side is also good, but a different genre than Holmes and Avatar.

I haven't seen Avatar, but I find it interesting that you went to that twice and Holmes zero times. Maybe Avatar is better, but there is no way that the second time of Avatar could be better than the first time of Holmes.

I saw it twice, once wasn't in 3D. but it was because of my family. once was with my cousins (who had heard Holmes was lame. ha.) and the other with my sister and aunt and friends.

This sounds so sad, but I want to go again...  I really love the movie.

My suggestions: Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, Brothers, Crazy Heart, The Blind Side, Up In The Air, Precious, and Invictus. All of them are great films and should be watched by anyone old enough to see them.

Yes! I worked for that movie.

I'm sorry.  My buddy and I are old school so the Holmes movie doesn't look like traditional Sherlock Holmes.  The previews make it seem more like a Batman and Robin, circa London late 1800's.   

That's what the previews had me believing too. But they were very misleading, as most of the movie is a more traditional Holmes story. Even the action/fighting sequences are completely engineered by Holmes' logic, which makes it awesome. Trust me, it's worth it.

I also loved the music.

The music was awesome. Hans Zimmer AND The Chieftans? Absolutely wonderful.

Avatar is overrated.  I was hoping Hurt Locker would win over it last weekend, finishing the hype off, but Cameron has better friends than his ex-wife.  The film had cool images, yes, but the creatures weren't better than Jurassic Park or Narnia (just cleaner rendering), and the CGI people weren't even as good as Gollum.  And, please, 3D that lets me see the areas not in focus?  You know, the important part?  Sigh.

And why, exactly, do the mountains float?

I was wondering if that was you, as I ran through the IMDB page when I discovered somebody I cast for a short was in the film as well.  The trailers I've been seeing on hulu look great... hopeful that I can see the film itself before classes go crazy this week.

Ah! That drove me nuts too!

The out-of-focus part of the screen changed the meaning of an epic Sci-Fi film by Ridley Scott.  In a 3D world, Rick Deckard would foolishly be considered a human.   I need the option to look for extra information if I want to.

Oh, interesting; who did you cast? Anyway, I'm sort of in the same boat. I'm in Utah at the moment, and all the theaters are playing Sundance films exclusively, so I'm hoping to squeeze a viewing in next weekend after I get back but before I leave again for school.

Laura Black (Pam Taylor in To Save a Life) was cast as the mother of a teen in Samuel Seventeen (I DP'd, bro shot), but she later had to decline the part due to date conflict.  Her husband (Trevor Black) was cast as a teacher, as that part didn't conflict.  Having both of them audition at the original casting left the names in my head, so it rung a bell when I saw the IMDB page.
