Is everyone on the northeastern coast ready for this one? People in virgina / western maryland may even get like a foot of snow right after the hurricane finishes.

Never seen a storm take that track before. This could be a worst-case scenario for Norfolk/Virginia Beach. They are normally shielded from hurricanes and storm surges because North Carolina juts out in front of it. But this hurricane is going to loop around North Carolina. Most of the Tidewater region of Virginia is below sea level, so this storm has the potential to be disastrous for them, even without a direct hit.

This, of course, says nothing about the concerns for all the people in the path of the eye. I know that the Delmarva peninsula is not equipped to withstand a direct hit from a hurricane. Most of the tiny homes in the vicinity of Route 13 will be destroyed by hurricane winds.

The Jersey Shore is in the immediate path, but the peripheral effects of this storm are much worse than most can imagine.

I'm most worried about Long Island and Southern CT. I'm luckily up in Northern CT so I won't get hit to hard.

My parents and brothers are all without power in New Hampshire. Fortunately my father has a back up gas-powered generator.

5-7 million people without power between NYC and new jersey. One hospital lost power and backup power is being evacuated, coney island hospital on fire and can't be accessed. At least two reported deaths. New York stock exchange flooded. Cities as far east as Rochester have declared states of emergency one for round of 100+mph gusts expected. for NYC, then its the rest of NYs turn. Will post updates as long as I continue to have power.

I am down in northeast Georgia, we've had wind all day. (Though not nearly as bad as in the Northern states) My college almost lost power 3x, and I think people in town ended up losing power. (But again, nothing to the extent of what is happening in the Northern states). So many people affect by this, a lot majorly, some minorly.

This picture was taken on Sept 18th, its been circulating all day but the memorial itself has posted that it was not taken today and posted 3 that were taken today well before the storm hit.

Death toll now at 11

Edit #1: Bellevue Hospital in danger of losing their backup generator, would force the same evacuation as NYU Hospital

Edit #2: It says a lot about this country that the Hurricane is still tearing through the largest city in the US, potentially still killing people, and the number 1 story on yahoo right now is the economic impact of Hurricane Sandy. People are in danger? Meh. BUT THE PRECIOUS MONEY!!!!

The Goldman Sachs building is also lit up like a Christmas tree while thousands including hospitals are without power.

Edit #3: More than 1 million people reportedly without power in the NY-CT-NJ area

Edit #4: Total of 4.1 mil people over 16 states without power

Edit #5: Death toll at 13. Rolling blackouts approaching my area as well. Still have power for now.

My cousin lives near the coast in the middle part of New Jersey. She said that she cannot leave her home since all the streets are flooded. Most of the homes in her town are completely under water.
