How many here are in 4H? How many participate in county, state, or national level fairs? I just got home from our county fair and I'm tired from showing goats (no offense.  ::)).

Sir, with all due respect.  You did not show us any goats.
May you prosper greatly!

One Goat and this thread could go downhill fast.
This Totally Reminds Me of the Joybell 4H thread {Good Times,Good Times} but I think she doesn't post frequently/Deleted Account (I guess I Look at the thread after this post [Edit: .......and weird Search Error....])
and that is the only Time I remember 4H being mentioned on this forum....

Is that the one that's like the FFA wing of the Boy Scouts?
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

Kinda like FFA, but cooler  (I'm just saying that. No idea what FFA is like.) Anyway, that's weird that this is the first time 4H was mentioned here. Ah well. So, anybody do stuff at any fair? I also showed Legos and a poster.

If I had time I would get out my legos and build a goat.

I actually go pretty far back with 4-H.  I did demonstration contests and speech contests when I was in 4-7th grades (probably really helped me with public speaking for the rest of my life).  I did meat judging (very briefly).  I made a couple projects over the years (like a headlight flashlight that plugs into a cigarette lighter of a car).  I participated in American Private Enterprise Seminar in HS, and taught a low ropes course at a camp for a week.

I went to 4-H camp for a week as a 4th grader (and hated it), again for a week as an 8th grader in the Outpost program (and loved it), and again as a Freshman in college for a summer on staff as a lifeguard/swimming instructor (and had mixed feelings).

I also made a LOT of projects over the years that I entered in the county fair (some of which went on to win at the state fair level).

Overall I really had a fun 4-H experience, and wish that it was more active in my county for my kids to be involved in.

Joined 4-H after leaving my former cub scout (predecessor to Boy Scouts) troop due to some having issues with my family leading our group (long story). At age 9 I took my chinchilla to the fair and won the trophy for best demonstration. The next year I took photography, flowers, my chinchilla, bicycling, and rabbits. This continued over the next several years with everything from fishing to money management to computer programming, not only did I learn a lot about different topics but I earned cash too! My record was 12 projects in one year...and yes I completed them all...7.00 per project wasn't too shabby for a preteen in the mid1990s (wow I feel old now...). Eventually I joined the teen leadership team and became president of our local club in high school (nice padding for the resume during scholarship searches). It's a great experience and not just for those who show large animals :P.

I got a trophy two years ago for showing goats along with my brother, and my other brother got one this year. We dominate!
