In her family, and to some degree in mine, especially farther back in the family tree, There is a tradition of naming the first born child with the mothers maiden name as their middle name. Plus, since both her father was an only child and he had two girls, Banning was (at least in this line) in danger of not being passed on so I suggested that we have our son carry it on in his name.
