Hi folks, I was wondering what you thought about the follwoing. I will simply post the letter that I sent of to Mr. Anderson to share my thoughs.
Mr. Anderson,
I was wondering, has your company ever thought about making a miniature version of Redemption? Please let me share my thoughts.
The now closed gaming company Wizkids had a series of miniature clix games.
1. In Horrorclixes, each figure had a point value. Your total team could not exceed what the agreed upon point value for that game was to be. The same could be done with Redemption, with the modification that ½ of the point value must be used with evil characters.
2. In Horrorclixes, each player was trying to rescue and/or kill victims. With Redemption, each player would be trying to rescue lost souls, or blocking rescue attempts.
3. In Heroclixes, there were feat cards that you could add to a character. With Redemption, the same thing could be done with the enhancement cards.
4. The way some of the figures would work would be…
a. Apostles could have a power where they can convert an evil human character of your opponent to your side.
b. Soldiers could be used as basically blocking figures to keep your opponent tied-up.
c. Some soldier; such as Roman Jailer; could be given a power that allows them to capture opponent’s figures thus removing the figure from the game.
d. Prophets could have powers more specific to them. For example….
i. Jonah could move on water terrain with no hindrance, representing a fish carrying him.
ii. Elijah could have a power that allows him once a game to move double his speed value, representing his out running a chariot.
iii. Moses could have a power that allows him and adjacent figures to him to move through water terrain with no hindrance, representing the Red Sea splitting.
iv. Etc, etc.
e. Son of God would still be a card, that would allow you to rescue any lost soul anywhere on the board, but it would have a high point cost and would require that be the only action the player takes that turn, to represent the players good and evil figures being in awe of the Son of God’s power.
f. Christian believers may have a power were they add to the strength of Apostles, representing their prayers for the Apostle.
5. I use Wizkids clix games as a reference, although I will admit that I do not think the clix system would be best for a Redemption miniature game. I say this for three reasons..
a. Topps, the parent company of Wizkids, still owns rights to the clix mechanics. I am pretty sure they will not be willing to give up that right without a heavy price tag.
b. Making figures more like the Heroscape game helps in keeping the game simple but fun. In Heroscape, the character’s powers and stats stay consistent until the character is taken out of the game.
c. Clixes was a random boaster game. Heroscape however is a ‘you get what you purchase game’. With a Redemption game, what may work is a get what you see package, but each package contains one or two special heroes and 2 or 3 generics. For example, Saul may come with 2 Roman soldiers, while Paul comes with 2 Christian believers.
I really do not know how well a game like this would do for your company. I only know that I for one would be willing to invest in such a game. I think I’ll post my thoughts on the forum to see what current Redemption players think.
In Christ,
James
