Can we please get bans for whoever thinks it's funny to shut down useful utilities? We can't even have a shoutbox because instead of punishing people who are misusing privileges, we just take away the privileges for everyone. Not cool.

Actually this idea has merit. If someone has acted in such a disgraceful way that an entire section of the forum has to be shut down, that person probably doesn't need to be here. I don't know what happened, or who did it, but there really should be some severe consequences for those involved (unless they have an explanation for their behavior that Schaef/Rob considers worthy).

You say refresh, I say spam. either way it was a misuse of the thing. I thought it was an OK tool but there will be no way to keep people from just doing stooopid stuff with it.
Personally I didnt think it was that big of a problem. and while I thought what warrior was doing was annoying, I didnt really care one way or another.
If they shut it down because of me them I am sorry but all I did was type out

all in 7 consecutive posts. that was all. That is not really egreegious in my book and if it got shut donw because of that then I think someone is a bit too sensitive about "spamming"

I agree with this. The Shoutbox could be a legitimately useful tool for finding games or rulings. Simply punish those who abused it, rather then take away a useful addition.

For the record - I didn't like the Shoutbox at all - Because you couldn't monitor it - Just like I don't like the + 1 - 1 deal - Because theres a track for it, it can be like encouragement....
Oh, and I think I won the pool, I said a week, and it lasted 4 days.

i did like it and it was good for finding games and just talking to people.
For the record - I didn't like the Shoutbox at all - Because you couldn't monitor it - Just like I don't like the + 1 - 1 deal - Because theres a track for it, it can be like encouragement....
for not liking it you sure were on it alot...
anyways, i still liked it.

It was really cool. You just clicked on the little trumpet next to someone's username and it caused a loud trumpet blast noise on their computer. It scared me to death a few times, but I think we all would have gotten used to it and learned to laugh a little.

My guess is pointlessly large amounts of messages in a short amount of time. If one person is all you can see on the shoutbox, then they're likely spamming it.

Schaef, is there a way to put the shoutbox above the forum rather then on the side? Its a little smushed over there.

Is there a way? Yes. Am I going to change the layout? No.
Besides, a smushed box encourages shorter messages to fit in the confined space, and that's good news for everybody.

Only reason I'd prefer it above is so that if someone posts a thread link, it doesn't make it difficult to read until that post is cycled off.

No point in moving the shout box when you can just click on the history and see the entire thing.
As an aside, my friend has a vuvuzela that he brought with him from South Africa. He was a driver for German dignitaries during the World Cup and is here at camp with me for about a month. Not much special about the vuvuzela, just a horn really.

How do you use it?

Click the little + sign over the forums (you cant see this when looking at posts or messages) to open the sidebar.
Should be pretty easy to figure out from there.
