To be fair, U&T never got counters, Priests just got less popular.
Quote from: Minister Polarius on May 07, 2011, 01:14:02 AMTo be fair, U&T never got counters, Priests just got less popular.Actually, cards that protect your hand from opponent's cards from the Di set (Simon the Zealot is one...are their others?) also counter U&T. But I do agree that the waning popularity of Priests is the main reason it's not used as much anymore.
Every year we need to make a card that people will complain vociferously about. That trend has been going on since the release of Priests, when Urim and Thummim was going to destroy the element of surprise in the game. In FoOF we had Z's Temple, which was going to destroy the game because it made an invincible offense possible. In RoA we had The Garden Tomb, which was going to destroy the game because it made an unblockable offense possible. In TexP, we made Mayhem, which made winning by the person who didn't draw it on their first turn almost impossible. And in Disciples we made Thaddeus, who basically makes everything on defense impossible. Next year we're making [Edited by ROSES] which will counter pretty much every OP'd card made in the game in the past 5 years, but to such an extent that it will probably be complained about more than all those other cards combined*. So why do we do this you ask? Well, it's because we like to get people excited about the counters to the OP'd cards that will come out eventually. How exicted were you the first time you saw Golgotha? "Finally", you said, "a hard counter to TGT!". So you went out and bought dozens of Disciples packs until you finally got a Golgotha, and you were at peace the next time you saw your opponent's TGT. So really, it's all a ploy. We make OP'd cards in one set so we can make counters in the next, so that you'll have a reason to need to buy the next set. It's ingenious really. Just remember that of all of the cards we have made that were going to destroy the game, the game lives on**. *This statement may be 100% true, or it may just be a falsified statement for effect. You'll find out this summer.**This message, while based on some facts, is really meant to be tongue-in-cheek; please don't take it too seriously.
