What if, once a year with whatever new set that comes out, Redemption reprinted one of the old sets exactly how it was, but with the new card format. Not an extravagent amount, but like 300 Boosters or something. that way we could phase out the old format a little at a time.

This would be expensive, and I doubt that many would buy packs to get cards they already have.

First of all this is essentially what the game has been doing for years by including older cards in disciples and such. Now warriors are in PC so that leaves women's I mean Falling Away. Not too shabby. Second, Redemption won't print new packs anymore because of cost so what makes you think that they would make reprint packs? Also there is less incentive to do this because Redemption doesn't do set rotation, so this would be merely for aesthetics.

Is this why the new 'packs' are boxes with cards from older sets? It is because of cost?

Primarily, yes, but it is also a way for newer players to get older/OOP cards.

Just out of curiosity, how does it keep costs down?

If there are fifteen cards in a new pack, you can save money if you only need to print five of them.

Oh yes, of course. I guess I am more curious about the actual box. Is the box itself not more expensive than a plastic wrap?

The box itself may cost more than the plastic (I'm not sure about that), but the primary cost for traditional boosters is that you print an entire set and get them pre-wrapped. With the boxes Cactus is able to use print on demand, getting only the number of cards that are needed, and then handling the packaging themselves.

Does Cactus  use the same company to print the cards now as they did when they had traditional boosters? When you say printing on demand, I am assuming Cactus can order more of the new cards whenever?  For instance, if PC sees really well and they run out, they can order more at their convenience? And lastly, does Cactus make the boxes or are those ordered as well?
