Looking to replace a very minor laptop component...

I have a Toshiba Satellite A205-S5880, and it has a bar on the front that I need to slide in order to open the laptop. That little plastic sliding bar broke, and that makes it very difficult to use my computer. I would like to replace it, but I don't know how. (The rest of this post is pretty much a rant, but it may also be a preview for my new book, Boy and Planet, so maybe you should read it anyway.*)

Maybe I'm just stupid, but I've looked all around the internet and I CANNOT figure out how to replace parts for my laptop. I can find stuff on what to do when the screen gets high, or when I give my computer a bath, or when a baboon picks all the keys off my keyboard and replaces them to form obscene words, but apparently no one has the same little problems as I do.

I tried to find some kind of part number for the part that broke. I figured there might be some kind of diagram in the manual or something. However, I lost my copy, so I was trying to look for it online but couldn't find it.

I almost called a support number that I saw, but the context of said number referred extensively to phones and such, so I decided against it, and I haven't been able to find another promising number.

I'm at a loss now. I want to figure out how to do these kinds of things on my own someday...

*After writing that I realized some might actually take it seriously, so...don't do that.

If it can't be fixed with a hammer, Windex, WD-40, and/or Duct Tape, then there's no point in even trying to repair it.  I'm sorry for your loss, really, I am.

Here are the customer service numbers for Toshiba computers in the US:

(800) 457-7777 (toll-free) or (949) 859-4273

If it's just the latch that holds the computer shut you can just try and break it off, crude but effective
An unanswered question is infinitely better than an unquestioned answer.

This is pretty much your best bet.  Lots of laptops don't even have latches.
