Does anyone play in central florida. Im a hour away from orlando ,tampa , and the. SWAMP .
I am trying to teach my son and some of his freinds the game .but still having trouble understanding some of the rules myself. so I thought playing or watching in person would help me.

I know YourMathTeacher has a playgroup in Florida somewhere (I think near Orlando) but I'm not entirely sure where. He'd be a good person to contact via PM or something.

YourMathTeacher works at Disney World, so I think it's safe to assume he's within driving distance of Orlando :-*.

YMT no longer works at Disney.

I live in Four Corners, 8 miles from Disney World, at the intersection of 192 and 27. I have not scheduled any tournaments yet this season due to finances. Once I get my tax return, I will start hosting again. I usually have one announced open tournament per month, and occasional impromptu tournaments. My first one will probably be impromptu so that we won't have to wait 6 weeks after I get my return.

I am trying to teach my son and some of his freinds the game .but still having trouble understanding some of the rules myself. so I thought playing or watching in person would help me.

I do not normally play in my own tournaments, so I will be able to answer questions and tutor you as you go. My playgroup is very flexible and not ultra competitive. We are more about the fun and fellowship.

Are there any children playing in your local tournaments?

My players are mostly in the 11-17 range. My 6-year-old wants to play, but players need to be able to read effectively in order to play Redemption, unless they only use cards with little to no special abilities. I can arrange a "kids" table if yours are very young.

Plenty. Some of them even under the age of 18. (I'm a big kid ;) ). Seriously though, Tim's group consists of mostly kids/teens.

No worries. If you need to trade cards to upgrade your deck before the tournament, then that can be arranged. I have just about every card in the game available for trade. My players are pretty much civilization focused, so you will face Blue Genesis, Green Prophets, Garden Tomb Ladies, Angels, Red Banding, and Judges offenses. You will also face Egyptian, Magician, Orange Demon, Pharisees, Philistines, Assyrians, and Syrian defenses. None of my players use the same civilizations, so you get a great variety at my tournaments. No two games are the same!  ;D

Fortunately you will not have to play against me, since my Absalom's Soldiers deck is nigh unbeatable.  :o

I must warn you, though, that Josh (TheKarazyVP that posted above) is a unique individual that brings entertainment along with high-tier competition. He has been known to bring his Heroless deck from time to time, as well as an outlandish array of hats.  ;)

We also tend to engage inextracurricular activities if time permits. I have a different video game console set up in each room, so you can play the PS3, Wii, PS2, Gamecube, N64, or even 3DS and DS. We also have an affinity for multiplayer games like Settlers of Catan, Shadows Over Camelot, Pit, and Phase10.

I guess since I have no clue what you are talking about .I should look into deck building strategy.
What type of deck?
I have been trying to build up my collection while learning the rules as we use e/f and g/h decks.

Again, no worries. We can discuss all your options just before the tournament, or you can play in the tournament against the different civs to see which one you like.

An example of this would be Judges and Babylonians or something like that where the cards play around their theme. A judges offense would probably include heroes such as Samuel, Ehud, Jair, David, Angel Under the Oak, Gideon, etc. and Babylonians would have Evil Characters such as Nenuchadnezzar, Nergalsherezer, Belshazar, Nebushasban, and some other guys who have a lot of Ns, Zs, and Rs in there name. :P Likewise, the G deck has an Exodus theme on offense and focuses on different character mentioned in the Exodus civilization such as Moses, Aaron, Miriam, and Jethro.

Various civilizations have different strategies. Eg: egyptians tend to discard cards from the deck, tgt tends to ignore evil characters, prophets tend to shuffle evil characters, etc.

Where in South Florida? If you are talking Miami, then you will be 4 hours away from me. If you mean the University of South Florida (which is actually in Tampa), then you will be less than an hour away.

Maybe it'll just take having a guy like you to bring some fresh fire to them.  You could be the encouragement they need to restart their playgroup.  I know they are both very creative when it comes to recruiting players.  They're just a bit discouraged after their first round of recruits didn't last.  They just need someone to help them decide to give it another try :)
