I know that many of you are seasoned veterans in Jewish Antiquities, so I need some help. Has anyone done any work or research dealing with Josephus? More specifically, the accuracy of his work? I am writing an eight page paper, due a week from this thursday, on the accuracy of his work and any help or insight would be much appreciated.

I know that this won't likely help... I have found people who discount his work and say parts of it have been forged to be against any claims of a historical Jesus. On the other hand I have found that people who quote his works and tout them to be a masterful work of history to be either people who are for or against claims of a historical Jesus. In other words, I have never seen someone attack Josephus without having an anti-Christ agenda. I would be curious to find out what you discover in your research though.

Hey Carl,
In my OT class, it was mentioned that Josephus was biased, in the manner that he portrayed the Romans in a positive light.  The main reason behind this bias is that they were funding his historical accounts, and he was living with the Romans (seems like it was one of the Emperors).  I know my Old Testament textbooks talk about it.  Biases do affect accuracy which is why I mentioned it.  As for my textbooks, I need to finish my own homework (hope to be done by Saturday afternoon) before I can assist with yours.  I hope this little bit of info helps.

Yes. It should be noted that Josephus defected to the Romans during the Jewish wars.

As a historian he knew that very few histories are written by the losers.
