I also work in IT so my mobile device is very important for what I do. My wife, our extended family and myself used no less than a dozen Android phones. They were all great at first, but after a few months started working very poorly. Slowly we've all switched to an iPhone which has worked great for all of us. I've had mine now for two years. It would take a small miracle or complete belly flop by Apple to get me to purchase another Android phone. HTC products were the absolute worst among the Android products we've experienced.

HTC One is the best designed, but the Galaxy wins out in raw power. I really don't like the overlays both HTC and Samsung put on stock android but neither of them is make or break on the device. Really any device running Android 1 or higher is a great competitor to the iPhone and I'd recommend either the One or the Galaxy depending on what you need more. Galaxy has a better camera, better battery life, and is expandable if you run out of storage space. The One has the better design, is more rugged (all metal instead of plastic) and better audio.

I'm NOT an IT guy or tech savvy at all, just an average consumer.  In fact, I've only had my galaxy (phone) a couple of months. (I've had my galaxy, the tablet, for just under a year.)

So far, I'm happy and content.  Then again, I have only downloaded like 5 apps, make phone calls, and occasionally get on the internet.
