Title: Insomnia.
Post by: Colin Michael on March 25, 2009, 03:42:06 AM
If you never slept, your life would be one long day until your death; time would be meaningless.

Which would probably be within the week...you can't live without sleep for an extended period of time.

Why would time be meaningless?  There'd be a certain amount of time until you died, correct?

Though, to be fair, I have yet to meet a 1-year-old that could tell time.

Time is something that exists in the human mind. If you go without sleep for a particularly long period, time will begin to speed up or slow down at random intervals (which is kind of scary).

Your brain shuts down. It's impossible.

As someone who has done that, it IS scary.

If you sleep till 12 every day, then get up at 9 one day time slows down quite a bit.

I remember when Doug Gray posted that insomnia and mental illness were caused by sin. He should have his own TV show.

For me it's just like: I'll move or something and my mental awareness of where I am and where I should be is either way ahead of where I am (making it feel like I'm moving through water made of needles) or way behind where I am and where I should be (making everything I do observed by my mind post hoc). In regards to the latter, not only does insomnia prove Kant's theory of time's non-existence, but it also provides groundwork for determinism. Yay!

My wife does not read these boards or play Redemption. She's just hot. God made her that way, it's not her fault.
