New Year Resolutions.

Anyone make them? Anyone break them? If ya made them, what are they? Mine is to lose weight, and "change." I can explain the last one, a little. Last year, my NYR was to "Try/Do things I've never done before" and it was a bit of a success. From having Lamb, to bleaching my hair, to using an Elipitical at the gym. So I decided that this year, I'd change. So far, I've shaved my beard down to a goatee. Ok, not a big change, considering I used to have a goatee. But I'm going to change my hair color, and am considering changing my monocoloromatic wardrobe. (Stop wearing all black, all the time) Now, not all of the changes have to do with my appearance, I have also decided to stop some bad habits as part of the change. (IE: eating out as much) I think there are only 3 people who know me well enough on the board to advise me on what else to change, but I'm open to sugguestions. (Ben, Kevin, and maybe Josh, ya know who you are.) Anyway, I'm getting off topic in the off topic forum....Anyone else have any New Years Resolutions?

I didn't make any, because I knew I would have broken them.

I havent written them all down yet but here are a few.  some of my new years resolutions take the form of Goals I would like to achieve by the end of the year.

Lose 30 Pounds
Improve my Greek ( i.e Be able to read greek without constantly turning to the Lexicon)
Ride in at least 2 "Century" Bicicle races ( at least 100 mi or more)
Run in at least 3 5k or more foot races
Finish creating my Family Tree (a Project for my family...I was trying to have it done by this christmas and failed miserably)
Go to Nat's and place top 3 in any of my categories (this one is more like a pipedream...)
Begin to learn how to play the Violin.

I have already started on/began training for #1, #3 and #4.

I have resolved to stop buying pop. I could have described myself as an addict previously (especially to that sweet nectar of heaven, Mountain Dew) and while I decided I wouldn't be able to handle cutting it off completely, I am resolved to stop paying for it. If it's offered for free, I'll take it, but that's it. That way, I will forego the 20 oz. bottle that I had close to daily last year, stop buying it in restaurants, and not take advantage of sales on 12 packs. The reasons are many, but chiefly it helps me be healthier, and save money. I don't even want to think about how much I spent on it last year.

I also want to lose around thirty pounds before my wedding in late July, and to start learning the violin. (Not trying to copy you Matt, but I honestly have had those in my mind for quite some time). My fiancee has played violin for 12 years, and she has said that she will teach me. She's also a workout fanatic, so I have done a lot more of that with her lately as well.

Finally, I am resolving to watch less TV. Having cable in my apartment the past year has not helped, and I've wasted a lot of valuable time watching useless TV. I have decided the two or three shows that I want to watch this year, but other than those, and football games through the postseason, I am cutting out other TV.

My resolution was to not make a resolution!

Wait....

Crud.

But seriously, I just try to better myself day by day rather than take a huge weight on my back after new years.

Pretty much why I can't stand New Year's resolutions....people get bogged down by the New Year's part.  When you can make a change any day, and when you fail then you can pick back up the next day and start a fresh.

For those with weight resolutions:  I want to strongly suggest watching the Biggest Loser.  It is super-inspirational while at the same time getting great hints and tips to live more healthily.

I don't normally do resolutions either, but this year I did one.  I decided to read the Bible in a year using one of those plans.  I read the Bible before, but this will be a fun way to read the entire Bible slowly over the entire year, instead of chucks at a time.

Nice. I'd make sure to find one that doesn't do things in a scattered manner, i.e. read this Genesis passage, this Matthew passage, and this Psalms passage today. The books of the Bible were written as wholes, and I find that I read them better when I read them that way instead of split up into small pieces.

Resolutions (or whatever you want to call them) that I won't break this year:

Sound barrier
Dancing
An NFL huddle
The front OR back of any mountain

But seriously, this year I resolve to be a more serious person...

I made a resolution to fix 2009 in 2010. Though I would have made this resolution no matter what, the timing worked out that I can say it like that :)

You should try the chronological Bible.  It is a year plan Bible that mixes up the whole Bible and puts them in chronological order instead of book order (so instead of four separate gospels, you are reading all four of them at once).

My NYR's:

1) Grow more spiritually
2) Get my eyebrow pierced (I've wanted this for the longest time. lol)
3) Go and see Skillet one more time and Julian Drive in concert
4) Get down a few pants sizes (this being the biggest one of them all XD)
5) Gather my thoughts down on paper a little more often in form of song or poetry....(yes i write songs and poems. This is a major outlet for me.)
6) Not have a resolution that started with a G.

 :o ::) :P ;) ;D
