I hate Perkins...

...because of their poor service which is why I'm NOT coming to Nats!

Seriously, I can't make it to Nats (the actual percentage count of my hope in going is 3% out of 100%).  I decided to post a topic because I knew there were some people interested in the status of my attendance.  I did NOT post the topic to start a plethora of "I'm not going...life is so miserable. *frowny face, frowny face*"  In fact, life is going relatively well.

It is as simple as I can't afford the trip because I was forced to make more important decisions with my available funds for my family.  When you're a father, you do things for your kids for their well-being while setting your interests aside.

Most of you may not know (if you are not facebook friends with me), we lost a beloved pet (9 mo. German Shepherd puppy) to a tragic accident.  What's worse?  My kids watched it happen.  After 3 weeks of mourning, I was presented with the opportunity to purchase a younger sister (next litter) of our last dog.  Go to Nationals or help my kids heal.  It seemed to be a no-brainer.  (BTW: Registered pure bloods are not cheap.)

I will dearly miss you guys, and I hope to see you at future tournaments and next year's Nationals.  Honestly, I was considering not "defending" the title, but instead attempting to earn a new one in T2 (still in disbelief of running the top two popular categories against each other :P ).   So, I have a favor to ask of all you T2 players who are way down the RNRS list....win Nats so that I will retain my RNRS lead!!!  hahaha  Seriously, have a great time, and I wish you guys all the best.

I totally agree that as a father you have to put the needs of the family above one's own Redemption desires.  We will miss you!

P.S.  I probably would've gone to the pound and saved a dog while at the same time saved all the money so I could still go to Nats, but that's just me :)

I figured he was trying to get a dog that looked as much like the former pet as possible.

Yeah, I assume so as well.  I'm just guessing that his kids are young enough that they would be equally happy in a couple weeks with a different looking dog that they got to pick out :)

As for your P.S.:
   1)  Thanks for not making the font so small that I couldn't read it.  (I don't copy and paste the tiny fonts anymore because it annoyed me to fix it more than reading what was wrote).
   2) I have rescued 2 dogs prior to Mercy (the pup that was killed), and those dogs come with a LOT of baggage and difficulties.
   3) We needed a dependable, trustworthy dog that fit with our family style that could be easily trained.
   4) The German Shepherd is as smart as the average human 7 year old.

I know it was monetarily more, but sometimes you get what you pay for in dog psychology and make up.  Again, I'm not against adopting...I've just been there and done that and was ready to start fresh.

FWIW:  Mercy was the BEST dog I've ever had (my whole life).  She was amazing, and it still hurts to know that her time on earth was cut short by a freak accident.

Those are good points.  And you are speaking from experience.  I assume that you made the right call :)

Why do haters gotta hate? Maybe service at Perkins near you is poor, but Minnesota Perkins establishments are known for their fast, friendly service. Where else can a group of twenty hungry Redemption players go at three in the morning and get food within fifteen minutes of the time they ordered it? Nowhere.

Also, you meet the most interesting people late night/early morning Perkins...something about Perkins being the only place open for food after the bars close...

Anyway, it's too bad you can't make it to Nats, the MTTPA (Minnesota Type Two Players' Association--yes we filed the paperwork) would have liked the chance to show you how it's done. But I guess family comes first, which is why I might not be able to play on Saturday (my sister from another mister...or something...just a long time family friend) is getting married that evening, and I'm ushing, which means pictures, etc, might be happening during the tournament.

 :D @ Prof Alstad:

I have been to Perkins in 4 different states (KY, OH, NC, NY) and in 7 locations.  They keep disappointing.  I have given up on them...they do not compare in service to Applebee's (the gold standard).  I only expect a restaurant to do one simple thing right, and if they can't complete that simple thing then (in my book) they are subpar.

As for Saturday, at least you have a shot on Friday to take my RNRS title in 2 player, and I believe Multiplayer is on Thursday night as well if I remember right. Unfortunately, you are one of the ones I'm rooting against.  Sorry.  :-*

Tell you what. If I win RNRS for T2 Multi, I will treat you to Perkins the next time you're in MN (like Nats 2012, perhaps...;)) and I will show you what good service is like. We Minnesotans do love our Perkins.

Though, TBH, I do like Applebees better. But I'm probably not allowed to say exactly why, in order to avoid having another Open Discussion debate in the Off-Topic forum... :-X

Random thoughts:

Perkins has been great, especially since 1971 at the Hastings location when I was gobbling up pancakes as a 3rd-grader.  :)

I only attend Nats in MN, CA, and the northwest.  That being said, unless I win the lottery I will not be at Nats this year (to the two people on the boards who cared).  ;)

Faithful fathers, ftw!

Dogs rule...cats, not so much!

I originally thought this thread was about Glen Perkins.

Last time I went to Applebees we were right by a table of 4 old people that drank like 50 martinis while loudly (pretty sure they had hearing problems, and it was loud in there anyway) reminisced about the past. Even getting that table took a 40 minute wait beings everywhere was packed.

Since that terrific experience, I've been going to Perkins instead. Perkins also has awesome muffins.

Last time I went to applebees I got a 2 for $20 meal.

Since that terrific experience, I've been eating there and not Perkins.

You will be missed!  Though I'm glad that the playing field will be that much more open.  You're the last person to beat me in T1-2P at a tournament, so I'm glad I got that out of the way.  Feel free to root against me all you want, it won't stop me!  hehehe.

Come to think of it, don't you have a seven year old?  You can still come to Nats!

That's where  the 3% of hope came from.  I am fully relying on the fact that if God provides enough extra funds, then I (and my family) will go.  Trust me, my 8 year old REALLY wants to go.  My six year old would like too, but isn't pushing for it.
