What's this "Respect: +X" feature I see on everyone's posts recently? How exactly does that number go up (or down)? Forgive me if I missed something obvious, lol.

I think it's the total amount of +'s/-'s you have on your posts.

Colin's, Prof's, and YMT's should be through the roof on this one...

EDIT: There needs to be a name change. Sauce is the most respected person on the boards. Colin and Prof really aren't that high, contrary to what I thought before. Prof had his epic quotes which has tons of +1s, and Colin had a few people trying to kill respect last time we had it by +1ing all of his posts.

Pol's and my own are surprisingly high.

This got taken away last time. Let's hope we can be mature this time, right Mr. Wester?  :-*

The system was flawed and easy to manipulate, which is why it was removed in the first place. At the very least, we should set a default minimum of zero. Having a negative "Respect" number next to your name is unnecessarily degrading.

Moderators can now see who +1s and -1s. I won't be doing that again...

Also, the only problem I had with "respect" last time was that there was a stat for it in the "more stats" section.

Given that mods and admins can see post votes now, and stats turned off so people aren't comparing notes, it will be easier to monitor, harder to manipulate and better to manage.  Pretty much everything about the version with this new edition of the website is an improvement on the original and addresses a specific problem we had the last time we tried this.

I voted to have only + 1s count toward the Respect total, to avoid a negative total, but that option didn't garner a lot of support.  The options I implemented were based on feedback from a broad range of board managers.

What I would like to see is a list of individual quotes that received the most plusses. We would have a default "Favorite Quotes" list.  ;D

Is there no way to set a default minimum? Or, perhaps have negative totals invisible? Or, perhaps reset everyone who is currently negative to give them a chance to start fresh?

What difference does that make? To be honest it's not going to be that hard to figure out most of the top 5 or so. I'm pretty neutral about the system. It's really cool to see how many +s I've gotten, but suggesting someone is more respected doesn't seem right.

So it isn't possible to only lock your total? I like being able to -1 posts to express my opinion without actually posting, but I agree with the others on the total.

True, feel free to mentally subtract the 80 points that came from that thread from whatever my total happens to be at the time.
