What do I have to do to gain a star

You need a printer, a pair of scissors, and super glue.

The first two bench marks, I believe, are 100 and 250 posts (junior member and full member, respectively). I'm not sure above that, however.

Then you should get along just fine here. Posting a lot isn't bad, per se, just make sure your posts have substance.

I think posting in some of hte boards doesn't count toward yoru post topic.  I know that the mods can set that as part of the deal, but I am not sure which boards do not count.  I suspected it when I was posting a lot on a certain board but My count was not going up.  I just can't remember which board it is.

Interesting, that is a great way to keep people from spamming Off Topic for post count.  However, I think it is the board I post on the least.
