Helpful guidelines for Moderators.

1. If you delete or "quarrantine" a topic.  Please tell the person who started the topic.  It causes unnessesary confusion when something simply dissapears.  I am not saying that you are not right in what you do.  I am just saying you are wrong in how you do it.  Reasons explaing why you are taking "such and such" actions will go a long way to quieting those who view such action as heavy handed.

If this thread gets deleted and I dont get a response, I will be upset.

1. If you delete blah, blah....
I will add to the list because you can't have a #1 without a #2
2.  I would like to know what moderators do what actions.  Not because I need to know or that I think everyone blames Schaef when he can not possible moderate everything.  I just want to know because I'm curious and would like to create a spreadsheet on your actions.   :)

3.  Please delete this thread because it offends me.   I especially don't want you to tell CP but you should PM me so I can debate whether I should tell him.  Why? Besides the offense, I am either a terrible friend or have a very sick sense of humor.  It really depends on who you ask.

4.  Please delete a lot of other threads and tell no one: in fact, blame it on a "purge" if people get too suspicious.  I like to watch people squirm and complain about the unfair system and begin making comparisons to the "glory days" of the EZ board which at one point nobody liked.  I find those kind of thought patterns kind of contradictory in nature, whereas the real fact is that people are rebellious in nature and look every where for "the man" so they don't have to follow any kind of authority while thinking the past was somehow better.

5.  Please delete this post.  I'm in a good mood tonight and thought I would let my sick humor run rampant (you guys and gals just may catch it too.)  I am pretty difficult to offend and like to joke around a lot; for some reason I thought this would be funny.

:rollin:

Oh that is good....well I see that bet and raise you...

6.  Please make me a moderator so I can follow the rules that I have previously set and to personally follow Travis around on the Redemption boards to harass him in revenge deletions for such an attack as documented above.

You know the more I think about it...the more moderation could be more punishment for the moderators.  You would just provide walls and walls of text....and they must read it to make sure you're on the up and up.  The moderators would just provide a "in summation", delete it all regardless offensive or not, or allow it all without the cumbersome task of reading it.

I already do.  Especially lately, when some of what you say gets unsaid.  (go ROSES!)  :)

I dont mind the Roses part ( I have never been edided by Roses because I dont know anything important but I digress)

I just mind it when I create a thread for other people to have a discussion and it gets nuked before it gets off the ground.  Then I get blamed for posting a link redirecting a duscussion to the proper place, only to have that link go dead because the thread I created is quarrantined.

I dont like threads being deleted with no reason being given. How is anyone going to learn what to avoid, or why to avoid it if there is n o communication being given?  It seems very heavy handed as if some people are running this board like their own personal feifdom.

Also I reject the argument that we can not have a civilized discussion about controversial topics.  I didnt really care about participating in the discussion I created, I just wanted to redierect some people to that board to get them off of another.  Now I feel like I have been punished for no reason with no communication with nothing for me left to do but wonder and speculate.

Is this about the evolution vs christianity thread? Because that is still alive and well....

*EDIT* Apparently it is about that:

Someone nuked the topic before it got off of the ground.  that was not my fault.  either way, stop discussing it here.

What happened is, you posted it in Open Discussion, not Off Topic. Open Discussion has an age requirement to even see that the board exists. Two people posted that they couldnt see it, then you assumed it got nuked. Lol.

You want to know what really stinks is even though I am 28 years old, and a pastor I can't see all the different areas of the boards.  Ben (DaClock) told me of some discussions going on here, probably in the open discussion area, but I can't see any of those discussions for some reason. I don't even see the link to open discussions.  So I guess what I'm saying is if a moderator can fix that for me I would be very thankful. :) ;D
I never want to grow up, hmmm maybe thats why I'm a youth pastor.

If it makes you feel any better, Matt, I don't even know what you're talking about, so at least you know it's not personal  ;D

It should, but as I stated all I get is the "Children's topics"  And as my signature staits I don't want to grow up but really I don't have much of a choice in that matter.

wait, so did Schaef just open up Open Discussion for all those who couldnt see it before? I thought it was given the age restriction for a reason...

In the parts of the board that I moderate, I don't remember ever deleting a thread completely due to inappropriateness.  However, I do delete posts, and sometimes edit them.  If I edit them, I try to put the box thing that shows that I did it.

I also do a good bit of deleting just based on uselessness.  For example in the ROOT thread, I periodically delete all posts that are more than a month old and don't seem to add anything that people would want to know (ie. posts that just report a score or a challenge).  I also periodically delete threads from that part of the board that are old and unnecessary (ie. about a tournament that is long over).  This is just trying to do my part to keep the boards from having future purges.  I wish all mods did this as well so that we won't have that problem in the future.

Add your age to your profile and it should open up.
