I've decided I need to get a proper suit to replace the mix-and-match one I've been using. Any suggestions as to what I should be looking for and what up-sales to avoid?

Look for a suit. To avoid upsales, don't buy things that aren't a suit.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!

Make sure the shoulders fit well. A tailor can fix everything but shoulders.

Not sure how expensive your looking but JC pennies has some decent suits for reasonable price.
