Hall of Fame voting 2011
« on: June 01, 2011, 09:48:49 AM »
0
We have 5 candidates for each of the 2 categories for the Hall of Fame for 2011.  Each year 1 person from each category will be elected.  After the election, both people will be in one combined group of Hall of Famers, where they will join our 10 inductees from the past (Justin Alstad, Rob Anderson, Chris Bany, Mike Berkenpas, Bryon Hake, Gabe Isbell, Doug Gray, Eric Largent, Tim Maly, and Ron Sias).  They are simply separated below to display their various contributions.

I would appreciate all input onto this thread being positive.  Please state why you voted FOR someone, not why you DIDN'T vote for someone.  And remember that Redemption is a Christian game meant for "fun and fellowship", so please emphasize these things in your decisions and what you write about these candidates.

Players:
Keith Bartram – [T1-2p (x3)] - Winning Redemption's biggest event at nats every time he went.
Joshua Hey – [T2-2p, T2-mp (x2)] - 4th place overall RNRS when he left the game.  One of only 3 players to place in the top 3 at Nats in 3 different events in the same year.
Eric Kimmons – [T2-2p (x2), T2-mp (x2)] - Only player ever to win 4 Nats in a row.  One of 2 players who have won at 4 different Nats at all.
Kevin Shride - [T2-2p, TEAMS] - Also an Elder and a host
Daniel Whitten - [T1-mp (x2)] - He even had his own "Fan Club"

Contributors:
Roy Cruz – the Heart of Redemption, Nats host, Elder
John Michaliszyn – Nats host, Creation Festival Guru, Elder
Stephen Schaefer – Creator and manager of the Storehouse, Overlord of the online forum, Nats host, Elder
Bill Voigt - Creator and manager of Redemption Camp, Creator and host of the "Annual T2 Only Tournament"
Mike Wolfe – Currently creating "Redemption Live" to replace RTS

I vote Daniel Whitten and Roy Cruz. I voted for both because I have talked with both and know them even if only a little bit.

I will neglect voting for a player as I do not know any of the candidates achievements that well. However, I'm having a hard time voting between John M. and Roy. Both are incredibly generous individuals who have greatly enhanced my own Redemption experience, as well as that of many, many other people. Roy's constant love and support of the game is astounding to me, and he seems to take it very seriously, which I admire. He's also one of the forces that keeps the trading economy strong. Plus, who doesn't own a RayZen deck pouch? On the other hand though, I've been to Creation three times now, and I've seen how John sells the game, as well as how he handles 20 kids in their pre-teens or early teens constantly asking questions about various things. They're both incredible individuals.

Unless I can give a half point to both of them, I abstain for the moment.

The idea here is not to vote just for who you know, but for who you think deserves the recognition.  If you are unaware of who some of these people are, then either click on the links that are their names or wait a bit until others have posted their reasons for voting for people.

I would also welcome Tim to write some more bios of these candidates as he is our unofficial Redemption historian :)

Nice idea, but no half points allowed :)

I vote for Eric Kimmons and Roy Cruz.

I've never met Eric, but I think his accomplishments listed above merit recognition. Roy is incredibly generous, willing to help everyone, and shares many ideas with people about how they can spread the game.

I will neglect voting for a player as I do not know any of the candidates achievements that well.

Official announcement: all entries that do not include a vote for a player-candidate will automatically be counted for Keith Bartram.

Keith Bartram and Bill Voight.

Keith because, well, T1 has always been the most difficult category because of the amount of competition. In addition, the meta back then wasn't much, and so to come up with a winning deck that could effectively take on the rest of the decks was much more difficult. It's crazy that he did so well. He must have been great.

Bill Voight because he's such a generous guy, and a great host. He's brought many MANY kids to the Redemption scene. I believe he's had 70 people at his "Redemption Minicamp" that he does every year. I am one of the people he's introduced to Redemption.
Not to mention the T2 only. This has to be the best tournament of the year by far. Only at nationals will you see so many top names, and so far whoever the top placer at the T2 only that plays at nats will win nats.
Additionally, there was the annual Warriors Booster Draft a few years ago, which was insanely fun, as the prizes were the entry fees--ultra rares (and good ones too).  Bill would always throw in a super prize though, such as a Women's box.
So he's innovative, bringing unique ideas to this area, which has attracted people nationally.

On a side note, he made a girl cry after beating her in T2 one time...I'm pretty sure he ended up giving her a DoN or something crazy like that. This was back before TexP and Disciples too, so DoNs were MUCH more rare.

I think my nomination post about Bill should be adequate for why I vote for him, and Andrew sums it up nicely as well.

For players, I vote Eric "Gil" Kimmons because of his many contributions to the game. Tim did a great job of explaining what those contributions were, and that was enough to persuade me that he needs a spot in the Hall.

He site-locked her at Nats.

I vote for Keith Bartram and Wild Bill.

Also, just so his enshrined bust doesn't get the wrong inscription on it in case he wins, I feel that I should point out that Bill's last name is Voigt, with no h.

Fail. I typed Voigt at first, but then I saw they spelled it Voight and doubted myself, so I edited my post.

I'm in the same seat as Apathy, Roy, John or Steven.

I'll go with John M., as I voted for him last year.  Player-wise: Eric Kimmons.

Bill Voigt hands down for contributor, and Kevin Shride for player, even though I crushed him at Nationals 2006 and he hasn't forgotten it to this day, as I learned this weekend at Regionals in Iowa, lol.

Josh Hey and Bill Voigt.  Josh Hey's Bio is amazing and He should have been in the first round of initiates.  Bill is a key cog in the Type 2 crowd which is where I love to reside.  But all of the contributers on that list deserve to get in.  They all have done amazing things for redemption

I vote for Wild Bill for his contributions to the Redemption World of RLK's that are learning the game (that included me a couple years ago) and also for his awesome T2-only tourney where several years ago I will never forget when I borrowed a lot of my brother's and sister's cards and won T2-multi with the deck and I still have the medal that he ordered for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd for each category. Bill was a great contributor.

Joshua Hey (seriously, when I think about Redemption Greats of the past, there are only a few names I still recall. His is one of them...)

Wild Bill, because I have NEVER laughed as hard as I did the night a bunch of us shared a hotel room during MN State in Rochester. Toilet monsters became real to me that night. Bill is one of the funniest, fun loving guys I have ever known, and the fact that he has taken it upon himself to invest his time and money into teaching kids a game that may help them steer clear of all the junk in this world...that's something respectable.
Latas,
JDiz
