Commentary:
Best way to stay out of the doghouse: Courting.

Courting is sexist.

Courting is generally just resistance to the dating concept in my expiriences.
Exactly.  Dating is divorce practice (fall in love, find fault with her, break up.  Wash rinse repeat, until you get married, then the last step is called divorce and requires a lawyer)
Courting is biblical, dating isn't
Dating has come into its own in the last 100 years.
Courting is sexist.
Well, so is the Bible, by that definition.

Courting is just a Christian thinking he is better than everyone else because he reads the Bible, has fundamental beliefs about it, and follows his legalistic thoughts in his life with the opposite sex. I'd love to see your biblical attack on dating (and please define dating while you are at it).

Oh, yeah, and the Bible is kinda sexist. Darn. Does that matter now?

Dating is divorce practice
Divorce = Bad

Courting = Making sure that the person is right for you, through the channels of yourself, your spiritual authority, and your parents (as well as hers)

Dating = What everyone else seems to be doing.

I'm way too tired to go beyond this, I'll try to expand on this in a few days.  In short, courting isn't what most think it is.

I also believe that the biggest problem with our (American) society today is that we don't know what love is.

Which leads me to this question:

That Courting sounds a lot like dating to most people. You sure you aren't sinning?

The argument of Dating/Courtship is often actually just a matter of semantics.  I think that whatever you call it, the most important thing is to do it with the right motives, with the right person, and in the right time.  For more detailed tips, check this post out.

That's essentially the point I am going to make whenever he posts his big argument against dating. Thanks for stealing that thunder :).

I think Prof Underwood's choice was a lot better, for what it's worth.

You seem like you're getting a little too argumentative. He's not attacking anyone or having a "holier than thou" approach, he's simply stating his opinion. You're just waiting to ambush his claims because you want to "win the debate." Take it easy, bro.

If I'm misreading this, sorry. You just seemed really aggressive to me with your comments. Once again, sorry if you didn't intend to come off this way at all. Just letting you know what others may think of yours posts.

The Bible's not sexist, because sexism is a made-up concept from the Feminist camp. Disrespecting women shouldn't have a different word than disrespecting men; disrespect is disrespect. However, the modern definition of what's disrespectful is way out of sync with the Biblical standard.

The Bible is sexist by the feminist definition. However, there is nothing inherently wrong with that, because they're is nothing inherently right about the feminist definition.

You're completely right. We shouldn't have fundamental beliefs based on the bible.

and follows his legalistic thoughts in his life with the opposite sex.
Oh, I see. The Bible is legalistic?

I'd love to see your biblical attack on dating (and please define dating while you are at it).
Dating is when you kind of think a girl is kind of pretty, start going out.........and then dump her to move on to someone prettier.

Oh, yeah, and the Bible is kinda sexist. Darn. Does that matter now?

Fundamental=stretching the Bible further to suit your own agenda, synonym (kind of) with legalism

No, but his view of "dating" (the word) seems to be.

No, that's generally seen as hooking up. Dating is going steady with one girl for an extended period of time for the presumed purpose of attempting to determine if you could marry her by entering an arrangement similar to marriage yet extremely less stressful and relaxed.

The Bible is pretty sexist (and I am not saying that is bad).

Well, the easiest concept that would commonly be seen as sexist would probably be the fact that woman may not hold the office of elder or pastor. To the world, that is a sexist position.

Both of these definitions are about equally laden with obvious bias.  They are also both basically inaccurate representations of what those words mean to the majority of people who identify with them.

Then it was not.Today, women have equal freedom as men.You can't compare 2000 Years ago today.

Fundamentalism refers to a belief in a strict adherence to an established set of basic principles (usually religious in nature), sometimes as a reaction to perceived doctrinal compromises with modern social and political life
Alex is both right and wrong
Fundamentalism isn't stretching the bible to suit your needs but it is taking a very legalistic view of scripture and how it should be applied to life.

And yes the Bible is sexist
"As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church. Did the word of God originate with you? Or are you the only people it has reached?" (1 Cor. 14:33b-36 NIV).

An unanswered question is infinitely better than an unquestioned answer.

Fundamentalism is "a core understanding of Faith Alone, Inerrancy of the Scriptures, and Christianity as the only way to heaven."

Agreed, but source is missing.

@ Alex, using the word sexist is saying it's a bad thing by its nature. Sexist is not a neutral word, it is negative. Just like fat and overweight don't actually mean the same thing. Connotation cannot be separated from words unless you explicitly explain the exemptions.
I am not talking about T2 unless I am explicitly talking about T2. Also Mayhem is fine now somehow!
