Well, I have not seen the movie. However, after reading imdb's parental post, it would seem violent to me.

I like violent movies a lot (Braveheart, Matrix, Gladiator, etc) but just after reading the imdb review it would seem very violent. Not saying that's bad of course though.

1. Guy getting his head cut off.

2 seems to make me think of x-men origins. was that 2009? that was a good one.

i do not remember any of those scenes being explicitly portrayed (otherwise the movie would have garnered a r rating). maybe implied, but never shown explicity. i do not recall a mans head being shown severed. i do not remember it showing a mans head imploding. it does not show the child killing the teacher. it does not show projectiles penetrating any part of a mans skull. and is 374 an arbitrary number, or just some number you got off one of those movie-violence watchgroup websites?

The movie definitely did not actually show objects getting thrust into people's eyesockets... did it? If so, I must have REALLY forgotten the whole movie.

Wow. You guys are amazing. In case you missed my earlier post. I just watched it. You are trying to remember something you watched....when? I just watched it. Instead of apparently calling me a liar....watch it again. It's all there. I don't read movie reviews. I told you what I saw.

The real irony here is that a few of you have said that you don't remember the movie being violent. What is the defintion of violence? This movie is all about killing, fighting, and maiming. What about this movie is not violence?

When you say that you don't remember any violence, what you are really saying is that you do not remember any novel violence. Our society has become so densensitized to violence that you don't even notice it unless it is unique or downright shocking. Eventually, nothing will be shocking. People will be getting killed when you walk down the street and you won't even notice.

Again, I just watched those things explicitly. Have you watched it in the past 24 hours? I have.

well you seem to recall things no one else in this thread can. even so, whereas i would let my children watch it versus how you wouldnt doesnt make either one of us more right than the other. personally, i think its a harmless kids franchise.

i also implore you to re-examine what you may believe is 'explicit'. did you actually see a head severed from a body, or did someone demonstrate the notion of decapitating someone, the camera panning away, and a head later rolling on the ground? did you actually see someones head explode, or what seems to be the remains of a persons head on the ground? there is a big difference from seeing it actually done (a la saw style) and it being implied.

What densensitized people "recall" is not relevant. Watch the movie again, this time looking for what I listed and you will see it.

Your MPAA quote says "generally," which would indicate that exceptions are made.

FYI, saying that violence is harmless is truly ironic.

its all subjective. thats like saying tetris or super mario could be violent because one could demonstrate dropping blocks on people while the other encourages drug abuse. maybe you're oversensitized.

maybe i would...if i could stream it instantly from netflix on my xbox 360...but i dont think i can. its one of those movies anyways thats only good for the intial shock/entertainment value. saw it once at the movies when it first came out, not really that great for a repeat viewing.

Densensitization is not a judgment of character. Desensitization is an affect of society and media. Stating that you are desensitized is evidenced by your statement that you did not remember the movie being violent at all. That was why I stated the definition of violence.

With that said, we are all desensitized to many things, depending on our exposure. I would think that most veterans are desensitized to violence because they saw it every day all around them. That doesn't make an insult.

I think we just have a miscommunication of terminology. Hopefully this explains what I meant better. i.e. the MPAA raters were not that concerned with the violence in GI Joe because they had just finished rating Saw VI and Hostel III.

haha, maybe. saw iv was graphic (but not that graphic as previous ones).

claiming something/someone is 'desensitized' is subjective; it just matters upon the perspective. again, whereas 99% of society wouldnt find tetris or super mario to be violent at all, there are some out there that will.

Netflix just sent me the Streaming Video Disc for the PS3 and I don't even own one. I'll email them to see if an Xbox version is coming soon.

So, don't watch it for the shock/entertainment value. Watch it this time just to prove me wrong and say so here.

FWIW, I did not find Tetris or Mario violent. Now the Three Stooges on the other hand....

well no, im saying you can stream netflix on the xbox 360, but i dont think gi joe is available to be streamed; im pretty sure you can only have them send you the disk. thats how it usually is with netflix streaming...you can usually only get the older stuff.
