That's proven with Monty Python and the Holy Grail, where people either love it or hate it. There seems to be no in between.

The Hurt Locker, hands down. Taking Chance was a close second.

Ooh, I plum forgot I wanted to see Hurt Locker.  Best trailer I've seen in a long time.

What is Taking Chance?

What is Taking Chance?

Taking Chance premiered at the Sundance Film Festival this past January, and it was easily the best of the dozen or so films I saw while I was there. I'm still debating about whether or not it's the most important film about the Iraq war to date, but it's up there. It's about the process that fallen soldiers go through, and the reverence and care given them, as they journey back home to be buried. It has a lot of heart, and is extremely moving. Unfortunately, HBO was the studio that bought it, so as far as I know it never saw theaters. You can find the DVD here, and the website here. You should also be able to find it on Netflix if you have an account. I'd say it's worth the $15 to own the DVD, though.

Transformers 2

Seriously? o_O

lol yes. I'm a monster Transformers nerd. Loved them since I was a little kid. People love to whine that the movies aren't Shakespearean enough or some nonsense, but I always ask what they were expecting with a movie based on a cartoon based on a toy...  ::) I watch them to see giant robots beating the tar out of each other, and I wasn't disappointed.  8)

Honorable mention also goes to Watchmen and UP; both are fantastic films as well. Actually, I enjoyed both of those more than Harry Potter, so consider my last post amended. :P

I just saw The Hurtlocker yesterday, amazing movie. Yeah there were a few scenes definitely not for kids. But it had some really good acting considering they were no-names mainly. That little kid selling DVD's was amazing. I loved his hip English slang.

I was very proud to have bought tickets though, considering I'm not 17. But apparently I look 19, according to some girls I was talking to at church a few weeks ago... They asked what college I was going to and how many years I had been going. I was like... I just graduated out of 10th grade, but thanks.  :D

I liked GI Joe a lot, but Tatum was lame (grade: D-) as Duke.  When bullets were flying he leveled up to OK (grade: C).

Snake-Eyes was great, and Zartan was really cool, in an evil villian sort of way.

I was glad they kept it free of sex/nudity/lowbrow humor.  I wish they'd done the same with the Transformers movies.

I hear you there Hedge. Watchman was a fantastic movie. I wish I had read the comics first - I think that may have enhanced the expirience, for once. Overall though, it was VERY well put together with believable acting.

Just because you see more movies than me doesn't make you more knowledgable.

Ok so it does.

X-Men Origins

I still haven't seen Star Trek, but I probably should...I'm just a big TNG fan so I'm not as into the other series/movies.

Watchmen was definitely my favorite movie so far this year.

A lot of close seconds, but that movie was pure awesome.

Tie: GI Joe and Transformers

I agree with Bryon that Tatum just wasn't a true Duke to me.  But they had the perfect actor for Snake Eyes and that's all that mattered to me.  I look forward to the characters they add in GI joe 2: maybe Flint, Leatherneck, Lady Jaye, who knows?

Maybe the thread should be renamed, "2009 - Favorite movie year...ever??"

EDIT: With two home runs so far, is it very long before we see a Hasbro Lite Brite movie?
